Hi everyone!
I'm looking for a #ttrpg actual play group based in Australia to run an introductory scenario for Undead Paradise.
In this scenario, a group of recently reawakened zombies are introduced to the new mutated world and are asked to help locate some missing people in a depilated city.
While the exact origin of the mutation plague remains a mystery, it is observed that each creature has evolved for a specific function in the new ecosystem. Some have speculated that this hints towards man-made design in a lab.

A chart of the Ecosystem in Undead Paradise. It explains the relationship between Vermin, Terraformers, Predators, and Titans. Vermin are Creatures which are designed to swarm and desolate an area. These are among the first to spread the seeds of mutation in a new space. Excavating the old ruined world, Vermin drop seeds of corruption, and herald the Terraformers to build. Terraformers: Creatures who are designed to terraform the world to accommodate the spreading mutation. Once a Terraformer has converted enough space for mutation, it begins to construct nests from which Predators can spawn. Predators are designed to eliminate any perceived threat against their territory. Once a creature is slaughtered, a Predator will cover the corpse with mutated cells, allowing the growth of more infection to new areas. And Titans are Legendary creatures that generate mutation and act as prime authority within a territory. These huge monstrosities were born via mass-casualty events; these tragedies bore perfect nutrient material for the mutated cells to grow and cultivate into a threatening colossus.
In Undead Paradise, following humanity’s extinction, the mutation thrived. Spreading unimpeded across the landscape, seeds of twisted evolution sprouted, bringing all sorts of new creatures into existence.

Step 3: Group Character Creation Character creation in Vermillion Vespers should happen at the table, out loud, with other players listening and reacting. This is a design recommendation with mechanical weight behind it. When a player chooses their Burden, the table hears it and begins imagining what that curse-shape means in the base setting they picked. When a player chooses their Blood, another player notices the overlap or the contrast with their choice and begins thinking about what that means for the relationship between their characters. When a player writes their first Mark, the table witnesses the commitment and begins planning how to test it. The best characters are built in conversation. "I am thinking about a Fury with the Blood of Grace" becomes "Oh, that is interesting, because my Oracle would have opinions about a rage-driven healer" becomes "What if we knew each other before, what if your visions warned you about something I was going to do" becomes a relationship that will sustain the first arc of the campaign before a single die has been rolled. Walk through the eleven steps of character creation together, pausing after each step to let the table react.
Step 4: Worldbuilding Build the city together using the Night Signal system. Each player defines elements at Whisper Range first, centering the fiction around the player characters (the focus characters of the emerging tale), then expands outward. The GM participates as a player, establishing and building out from key NPCs, following the Wattage economy like everyone else. This step typically takes 20-60 minutes and produces a city dense enough to begin play.
Step 5: Connections This is the step most games skip and the step this game cannot afford to skip. After characters are mechanically complete and the world context is established but before play begins, the players define their connections to each other. The relationship should be specific, weighted, and loaded with fictional potential. The structure is simple. Go around the table. Each player looks at another player and starts a statement or asks a question: • "I owe you because..." • "I saved you once. Did you acknowledge it?" • "We share a feeding ground, and it is…" • "We survived a thing together. Why don’t we talk about it?" • "I loved someone you destroyed and we…" • "I watched you do something I cannot forgive. I haven’t told you that I saw. What was it?" • "You know my worst secret and you…" • "You remind me of a love I lost. The resemblance hurts me. How does that make things awkward for you?"
The player being looked at responds and fills in the other half. By the end, everyone should prompt at least one other player and be prompted by at least one other player. The web doesn’t need to be complete. It can be filled in more in play. It doesn’t need to be even. It’s normal for 1-2 people to be the social lynchpins or hubs. Notice that these connections are not all positive. "I owe you" and "you know my worst secret" are relationships built on vulnerability. "I loved someone you destroyed" is built on grief and anger. The best connections generate obligation, tension, intimacy. Comfortable relationships are wonderful in life. In this game, comfortable relationships are wasted potential.
I'm not just proud of the core rules and concept for my vampire game. I'm extremely proud of the GM and player tech that I'm including. I 100% encourage other TTRPG designers to steal these dead simple but deep setup ideas.
