Yes, many countries provide healthcare to all residents equally (same cost, or free for everybody), regardless of citizenship.
Inability to pay deposit means denial of treatment. This happens all the time. Although I have also observed instances of discrimination & inadequate care after admission.
โCheaper than anywhere else in the world where they offer free healthcareโ doesnโt make sense.
Denial of treatment is a constant issue and even when someone has an emergency, the pressure to pay is immensely stressful. Malaysiaโs two-tier system discourages seeking healthcare.
For a much higher fee than citizens, sure.
18.02.2026 02:19 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Illegal clinics, run by & for migrants, exist because Malaysia imposes high financial barriers to healthcare for foreigners. 12.02.2026 11:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0An additional risk is the governmentโs own complacency: its systemic exclusion of non-citizens from affordable healthcare. Although TB is treated for free, I knew a young refugee who died of it three years ago because getting diagnosed in the first place cost money she didnโt have.

I helped a refugee get resettled to the US just in time before Trumpโs inauguration. I thought by she would be safe even if subsequent cases would be rejected. Instead I still worry for her future. Luckily she left Minneapolis just before all this kicked off.
