An idea! Maybe we should all add an additional final item to all our addresses, "The World". EG I live at "125 Main St, Charlotte, NC, The World"...as a reminder that we're all part of a whole and our borders are not immutable boundaries.
Sometimes I think too much lol.

I think a lot about nations and borders and divisions.. ideas of "my country" vs "your country", and the troubles that can lead to. Maybe if we all saw the entire world as "ours" instead, there'd be less struggles over who belongs where, etc.

This is very close to the question of "Where is home"? At what point are you "home" when in a new country? When you decide you are? When others decide you are? Immediately? Never?

#expatsInMexico I started writing the text for something like a Ted talk, on the topic of "Where do I Belong?" Do you only belong in your country of birth? Do you belong in a new country after living there for 5 years? Do you only belong in a new place once locals decide you belong?

#bilingualSpanishEnglish When I teach Spanish I always suggest practicing newly learned words with exaggerated emotion, as if you're an actor in a play. Run through the house yelling "Incendio!" for example, pretending your house is on fire. You'll never forget the word!!

My guess is that this mostly gets started either in border areas (intermixing of cultures) or by Mexicans living in the US and fashioning their Spanish to be more like English

#bilingualSpanishEnglish It's interesting to see the language change over the years. When I first started learning Spanish eons ago, you couldn't use "moverse" to refer to moving (changing) houses and afaik nobody used "déjame saber", which is very Englishy-y

#ExpatsInPuertoVallarta. I visited the botanical garden twice during my last visit. Just beautiful. I loved the pet cemetery and wondered if anyone can have a pet interred there or if it's a private thing?

#ExpatsInPuertoVallarta On my last trip, I noticed a lot of lovely small towns around the bay. I wonder how isolating it would feel to live in one of those places instead of right in PV or one of the other major population areas there?

#ExpatsInOaxaca Hoping to spend lots of time in Oaxaca in the next few years. I'm bilingual and love to teach Spanish or English. Are there already lots of people teaching languages down there? I know the lending library hosts classes.
