Also does he get called short in this universe, and flips out like Edward Elric? :P
I love the magic barrier. Gorgeous.
/Even the music./ It's insane how modern the soundtrack is. It was so radically different from anything at the time but now it's familiar, conventional.

A game from 2008 that looks, sounds, feels, plays... exactly like a game from 2018. And its engine was still in use by that time.
Enjoy silly variants of this that I had fun making. #elitedangerous

Did a bit of mission mining in #elitedangerous yesterday and was struck with inspiration. Have a "Where/how tf do I mine this?" reference sheet.

Currently cleaning up my computer which has been accumulating various files for 10+ years.
So far I've found...
1: A folder full of duck noises(?) in a proprietary Audacity format.
2: A mysterious file in a raw image format, too small to be a photo, which nothing can open.
3: A _158MB_ .txt file!
Mmmmmmmhmmmm... Sure it was the wolves. Definitely not templar nonsense trying to escalate the conflict.

A Discord screenshot of a message sent by Monody, reading: Well the encoding speed and compression ratio phase of the testing is concluded. Before I move on the the visual quality phase, here are some interesting findings: 1: VP9 sucks. Not only was it fairly slow and had bad compression compared to the others, but based on my earlier testing with these codecs' respective image formats, I'm fairly confident it would lose the quality contest as well. Is it better than the previous-gen codecs? Sure. Is it better than VP8? Fucking absolutely. But it's taking the L in this lineup. 2: There is a ridiculous speed disparity between the AV1 encoders. SVT-AV1 has a huge range of speeds, and at its fastest it's able to compete in the same space as x264's "veryslow" preset which is what I've been using. AOM-AV1 at its fastest is about a sixth of that speed. ...and as for RAV1E... I didn't bother filling in all of its framerate fields on the spreadsheet. I just left the first one as "Slow". 3: 10-bit has unexpected effects. When I experimented with 10-bit YUV color, I expected to see a small increase in encoding time and a significant increase in filesize. For some reason, the opposite is true. The files are only very slightly larger, but there's a fairly consistent ~30% reduction in encoding speed. Very strange.
Here's a status report I DM'd my friend, because someone here might find it interesting/useful. Also it's an AVIF because it's funny and Bluesky doesn't support HEICs.
24.01.2025 13:09 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0So I've been experimenting with current-gen video codecs to try and replace x264 in my current workflow. I recorded several lossless test clips that contain various challenging things for video encoding: grain, concentric lines, red text, etc… and have been re-encoding these to record the metrics.

It was true for x264, and so too does it appear to be true for x265. (Spoiler tagged:) The slower presets... produce /larger files./" "I can offer no explanation. My sanity dwindles." "WTF even is this nonsense" (A screenshot of a spreadsheet filled with video encoding test statistics, generally indicating that lower presets produce files of a similar or smaller size at the same quality setting despite being several times faster.) "I have been enlightened to the truth of video encoding. Things are not as simple as we once thought. RF equals quality... Preset equals speed... /What a FOOL we were! All things are intertwined, and none are all-encompassing."
Having some fun theatrically dramatizing my video encoding experiments.

03.12.2024 01:54 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Wait a minute... "DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil" would've been the perfect title for DOOM 64!
It's an explicit sequel to DOOM II, and its plot revolves around all the demons having been resurrected.
And then DOOM 3 would've been DOOM 4 running in idTech 4, released in 2004.
Since this consists of two distinct characters, plus breaks, this could be used as a kind of Morse code.
Or should I say... Horse Code. :D
Wait a minute...

Recently learned about the Shavian alphabet, an attempt to create an optimized script better for writing English than the Roman alphabet. I have some nitpicks with it, but overall it's pretty cool!
...So naturally it didn't take long for me to make a tiny pixel font of it.
