Wish @sfchronicle.com did a more serious job with this article by including reporting on data around such efforts and comparing strategies to reduce injuries. Cost benefit analysis of such operation, etc. Some serious reporting you know, not just clickbaits.

They did same thing at 17th and Fulton after incidents there, for a couple of days, wrote a bunch of tickets.

Crashes and accidents continued unabated.

Yeah, besides the publicity, these sting operations have no effect. There is no measurable reduction in bad behavior. It’s a waste of money to have the SFPD strut around.

High injury corridors are best addressed with infrastructure safety redesign and permanent treatments, including speed cameras.

Smartphone driving is drunk driving.

I see anywhere between 30-50% of drivers holding and staring at their phone whenever I bike in the city.

One week ago, thousands of New Yorkers tried something new.

They heard about it last minute. They didn’t know where it would take them or who they would meet. It was free, earnest, even educational.

It was the #ZcavengerHunt and it was a thing of beauty.

Haha so true! When did you do it? In my hundreds of crossings I’ve learnt to appreciate all conditions. Best time to cross early morning or late night, strongest winds are in the afternoon. If winds above 20mph, walk your bike (esp around towers) unless very experienced.
