I will say this: he’s reminding us of the centrality of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in powerful ways.

We ground our understanding of the world not in disdain for the world, but in embracing it.

Jesus came not to the righteous but to save sinners.

We are not living in unprecedented times. Read the Acts of the Apostles.

Re: social media: “you can have an unexpressed thought.”

He encourages us not to live on outrage or to believe that only things that happen on social media are real.

…at least buy from a local independent bookseller, who shares more money with the publisher.

Also, if you wonder why books are sometimes crazy expensive, it’s that the publisher has to sell that “$20 book” for retail of $40 just to make ends meet.

…both ways if books are returned. That leaves around $7 or less for the publisher. Buy the time they pay for printing and royalties, they have $2 left. That’s not enough to pay editors, designers, marketing people, and the rest. So, yeah, they may incur an effective loss.

Buy direct! Or…

Let’s take a hypothetical $20 book, just to make the math easy. Say the author gets a $2 royalty and it costs $3 to print. If you buy it direct from the publisher, they have $15 of net income.

If you buy it on, say, Amazon, they take 60% plus they charge the publisher for shipping…
