Policy Analyst @markgdayan.bsky.social has written for VIEWdigital about the troubles facing the health service in Northern Ireland.

Improvement requires political leadership across parties, matched by changes to the system to make services more specialised and efficient. But it won’t be easy.

Abolished to perfection? Building a better centre for the NHS | Institute for Government The abolition of NHS England creates both risks and opportunities.

NEW REPORT: abolishing NHS England could help simplify accountability, improve prioritisation and create savings. But the change could also lead to increases in policy incoherence and blame culture, as well as the loss of skills, capacity and focus on areas outside the day-to-day NHS.

Trump targets NHS in trade talks British health service faces paying higher prices for US drugs

The #NHS is already stretched beyond the financial limit. If it is to spend more on the same medicines in order to save other sectors from tariffs, that reduces the money for healthcare goals - whether that's staff pay, waiting times, or digitisation www.telegraph.co.uk/business/202...

Our statement notes this may allow councils to keep up with social care demand, but note a lot of this is coming from big assumed council tax rises - 5% a year! Important gradual shift in how we pay for long term care in England, to quite a weird property tax. Nothing for major reform

The NHS is very skint right now, and has also just had to promise the pharma industry a review on the VPAG scheme from which the public sector was set to rake in massive cashback savings.
