A pinball machine designed to look like the internal organs of a human being.

A pinball machine designed to look like the internal organs of a human being.

Canadian artist Howie Tsui redesigned an old pinball machine into a simulation of a musket-ball rattling around a soldier's guts for an exhibition on the War of 1812. It's meant to demonstrate the way that repetition and concentration can inure a person to the horrors of war.

A heart made from papier-mΓ’chΓ© showing the veins and arteries in blue and red.

For #ValentinesDay, I'll be posting #HistoricalHearts

Let's start with this life-size papier-mΓ’chΓ© heart by the French anatomist Louis Thomas JΓ©rΓ΄me Auzoux from the 19th century. Photo: Alex Peck.

The trunk, head and dorsal hump of a mammoth drawn in black outline. A silhouette of a hand, painted in red placed within and partially over it. On the beige, scratched wall of a limestone cave

The juxtaposition of a mammoth reduced to the barest line, with the most human of symbols in blood-red ochre.
Yes, there is probably something to decode, but first it's important to share the awe that human art can persist for such spans of time.
That we can still encounter it.

Do you know why a president would do all the most evil and heinous shit via Executive Order? Because his party can't easily make it law. And if they can't make it law, they can't make it last.

Don't let anyone make you feel like this is The End. Do not let them demoralize you. Live to see them die.

We take so much pride in our #empathy. But there's a time for empathy, and there's a time for judgment. And on so many issues, Republicans have earned their judgment.

very excited to see what happens when you make a deeply compromised addict the leader of the department of defense and subordinate to a madman

This is a new format for me. I’m not super sure what works visually. New social media platform learning curve (again).
