Chuks Aneke: Hale End product who spent 13 years at Arsenal released by Charlton Athletic | All Nigeria Soccer
Championship newcomers Charlton Athletic have confirmed the departure of Nigerian-eligible forward Chuks Aneke, who will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract on June 30, 2025.
In a statement published on the club’s official website, the Addicks announced their retained and released list following the conclusion of the 2024–25 campaign.
Aneke, a versatile attacker, has not been offered a new deal and will become a free agent this summer.
The 31-year-old rejoined Charlton in January 2022 for a second spell, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract.
Over the course of his time at The Valley, including this season’s League One playoff final against Leyton Orient, he made 138 appearances, netting 27 goals and contributing 14 assists.
Born in Newham, Aneke developed through the ranks at Arsenal, where he spent thirteen years.
During his time with the Gunners, he enjoyed loan spells at Stevenage, Preston North End and Crewe Alexandra before sealing a permanent move to Belgian side Zulte Waregem in 2014.
He later returned to England, turning out for Milton Keynes Dons and Birmingham City, amassing a combined 115 appearances and tallying 35 goals and 16 assists across both clubs.
Eligible to represent Nigeria through his parents, Aneke was once on the radar of the Nigeria Football Federation during Amaju Pinnick’s presidency.
Internationally, he featured for England at various youth levels, earning caps for the U16s through to the U19s.
