But if the UK has the highest energy prices in G20 (i think it does) then is it really a sound policy to simply press on with what has got us here?

Real reforms would broaden the base to allow a lower rate, end some peculiarities re CGT, remove some exemptions for some "business assets", and not talk about tax on tax or on "aspirations".
