An Özdemir win would matter in another sense too. 7 decades after the first "guest workers" came to the federal republic, he would be the first minister-president of a German state to have Turkish roots. It wasn't a big factor in the campaign - people just like him (⬇️) - but is a moment nonetheless.

Why one of Germany’s richest regions is gripped with anxiety Baden-Württemberg’s election is overshadowed by worries over deindustrialisation

Nearly half of voters tell pollsters that Baden-Württemberg could face the fate of Detroit, which fell into destitution and bankruptcy when its car sector crumbled. That may be taking things too far

I've spent so much time training my daughter on Star Wars and Marvel and James Bond and now she wants to watch romantic comedies.

Never had the potato cakes. When I was in 6th grade, my Dad enrolled me in a Saturdays basketball camp, which - not self aware enough to realize it then - only reminded me that I wasn't great at sports. But afterwards, we had beef'n'cheddars and curly fries at Arby's together, making it all worth it

Bad Philosophy Won’t Help Us Make AI Good Even Anthropic’s supposedly moral AI shouldn’t be used to make ethical decisions.

The Anthropic v. DoD conflict, right before an actual war where it's being used, shows the urgency of slowing down and thinking. Here's a Gift Link arguing that AI needs better moral philosophy that what is currently on the table. thedispatch.com/article/anth...

A profoundly beautiful essay on childlessness by @karenswallowprior.bsky.social. Do read. "Children are a gift.... Sometimes, while we are looking for one gift, it can be harder to see another one resting, still wrapped, in the other direction."
