The Camera: Defence From Harm²? Is the camera, and our consumption of its visuals, a barrier to shocking events?

I have been thinking a lot about the camera as a kind of barrier between the user and the activity they document. Not in a physical sense, but as a cognitive buffer.

A Soldier Disappears at the Somme What does this tell us about conflict imagery?
