Group chats were more complicated and expensive in 1946. A 3 way telephone call for 30 minutes between Melb. Adel. & Perth to discuss a player clearance cost £10 Equivalent to about $860 today. Your phone bills looking better now?

Not many moved this quickly from park footy to League. Max Piggott released from the army in 1946 One game with South Districts then one for South Melbourne 2nds then Full Forward for South Melbourne
Park to League 3 games
4 goals on debut against Keith Miller!

I agree it's ridiculous. Keeping the broadcasting revenue onside at the expense of the game. But I do find the long history of "Americanisation" disccussion interesting. Even found a 1904 article bemoaning Americanisation of sport but didn't mention football

Lots of complaints about the #AFL introducing a #Wildcard round and Americanising the game. Long time
Richmond and Melbourne administrator Percy Page wanted to Americanise the game back in 1942. So this Americanisation push has a long history!

Almanac Footy (History) – The McHale (and Dan Minogue) V/AFL Premiership DNA Coaching Game

The premiership coach gets the Jock McHale medal & if you look into it most premiership coaches trace their coaching DNA back to the Collingwood legend (Chris Fagan a notable exception to the rule)

Pick a premiership and follow the track back to Jock

Jack Dyer was a legend. In 1944, at the tribunal in yet another case of a possibly unprovoked attack by an opponent. Footscray Secretary & player rep. Mr Ramsay was unhappy about the guilty verdict & penalty. He said "Any player who strikes Jack Dyer deserves a Victoria Cross"

#RIP Barrie Robran, 77.
The South Australian legend, who many agree was the greatest player never to play over here in the VFL/AFL.
For those, like me, who never saw him play - I've uploaded his 1h doco 'The Man and His Football'.

#AFL should the player have more time or less time to get rid of the ball when tackled? Its always been a problem. Here is the advice from Round 1 1943 Footy Record. It was sure to fix the problem 😁

Jack Titus was a champion full forward for the Tigers but in 1943 he was also busy jumping from his car and climbing on to a run away cart pulled by two horses in Punt Rd. Any nominations of which of today's players could do the same?
