Somehow, I managed to already craft a quick video from todayβs tornado intercept near Sauk City. One of the closest encounters with a tornado Iβve ever had.
Hope you find it as wild as I do! #wiwx #tornado

I think?
The lush green Nebraska sandhills fill the foreground on either side of the 2 lane highway Iβm driving down. In front of me, a thunderstorm beautifully lit by the setting sun, and underneath it a massive violent tornado accompanied by a rainbow. The sun partially peaking through the clouds creates incredible lighting and contrast in this scene with the shadows really accentuating the depth of the storm. The way the tornado is lit right next to the rainbow gives beauty to an incredibly destructive force.
The green hills in the foreground are bright in the sunshine, a ragged dark tornado churns up dirt just beyond the farther hilltop. The sunlight creates a rainbow right in front of the tornado and illuminates individual drops of rain and hailstones flying through the frame.
Large hailstones fill the sky in front of a massive tornado partially obscured by the precipitation. The sunset light creates a dramatic scene, and the rolling green sandhills provide a dynamic landscape for such an insane moment.
Yellow wheat fields fill a shallow valley between the green sandhills. In the distance a giant white cloud wraps around the skinny shadowed remnants of a significant tornado. A radio tower is almost unnoticeable as it is dwarfed by the tornado behind it.
These are all the same tornado. There was a good 10-20 minutes I couldnt see it where I wish I knew what form it took across its evolution, but what I did see was incredible. Whitman, NE 6-25-24
