Transphobia takes many forms.

We see you suddenly treating your marginalized staff members worse and demanding undue amounts of work from them because you know their employment options elsewhere are now limited. We see you making yourself more corporate and capitalistic by the day.

I need every org to understand that you will not maintain your safety by suddenly turning yourself into a t-shirt seller that has "inclusive" game nights. We see you stripping commitments to decolonization work out of your mission statement. We see you softening your language across the board.

"All nonprofits were always bad" nonprofits were never going to save us, but they do have their roles, mainly in community advocacy, serving as a hub for information and resources, and, most of all, redistributing funds from grants to the populations they serve.

No one had any expectations for the big corporate nonprofits, but one of the most disheartening things to happen in the last few months is watching smaller, grassroots community orgs abandon core values to appease their funding sources and attempt to avoid drawing negative attention.
