My first bird of 2026, both seen and heard, the Sandhill Crane.

Anyone else in the Society of Spider Admirers? Stickers, shirts, and totes in the shop. The first day I wore the shirt I was already getting comments about it. Comments will be mixed, I'm afraid! 😅❤️🕷️

I wanted to do a native plants piece that would apply to more of the Eastern United States, and not just Florida. Here we have a Ruby-throated Hummingbird with Coral Honeysuckle, Partridge Pea, Pipevine Swallowtail with Butterfly Milkweed, Black-eyed Susan with Leafcutter Bee, and Spiderwort.

Coastalplain Balm (Dicerandra linearifolia). 🩷 Last one I'm doing for this series. It's been fun!

Florida Lupine (Lupinus floridanus). Wasn't sure I could get this one to fill the space well, but I think it worked out with the leaves! Next I'm attempting a dicerandra.

Greenfly Orchid (Epidendrum conopseum).

Least Tern 💛 Named for being the smallest tern species. In Florida they are threatened and sometimes nest on rooftops. This painting will be available as a sticker soon.

These Clematis are not vines, but they grow like a wildflower from the ground and particularly love to grow after a burn! We have some other species here (Florida) that are vines and are very similar looking! Both look like little fairy caps and turn into fluffs later!

A group of stickers- Barn Owl, Barred Owl, Monarch on Milkweed, Gulf Fritillary on Passionflower, American Bumblebee, Butterfly Orchid, and Hooded Merganser.

Crooked Neck and a handful of other new stickers (designs previously used on ornaments). Crooked Neck is a Great Blue Heron that can be found at Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive and is unmistakable! I put him with some Bur-Marigolds, which bloom prolifically out there in the late Fall/Winter.

My first bird of the year was the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker! A couple was working on the trees outside my window. What was your first bird of the year?

Florida Milkweed (Asclepias feayi). This milkweed is endemic to peninsular Florida and found in sandhill and scrubby flatwood habitats.

Ghost Pipe, Monotropa uniflora. While they bloom in the Summer up North, in Florida they are a late Fall bloom. There's still a few around, although most are turning brown. When fresh they can be between white and pink hues.

Small Butterwort (Pinguicula pumila). I love how you can find these growing together in shades of white and purple. Wish I had picked Blue Butterwort (caerulea) instead though, might have to paint another!

I painted Gary the hitchhiking Grackle for posterity. He's a celebrity on the Black Point Wildlife Drive at Merritt Island NWR right now. Have any of you met him?

Just when you think the flowers and insects are done for the season, the most beautiful flower of them all makes her appearance... Grass-of-Parnassus. This is Bigleaf Grass-of-Parnassus, Parnassia grandifolia. ✨

Seems fitting to post the painting I did back in March as well. 💚

Southern Toad, Eastern Indigo Snake, and Black Bear - a few of my non-bird keepsake ornaments here. 🐸🐍🐻 I think my favorite one this year is the toad!

Happy Pollinator Week! Brown-winged Striped Sweat Bee (male) here. I was excited to bioblitz for pollinators this week, but so far it's been too windy and/or rainy for many to appear. (Not a complaint since we need rain!) Hopefully later this week. 🤞🐝🦇🐦🦋

I finished my Wildflowers of the Eastern US collection! Prints for each State featuring 25 native wildflowers. 🌼 This rainbow is all the wildflowers I painted for the collection! Perfectly sized for a puzzle, should I ever find a way to make those. 🧩

A couple of designs I made for my upcoming ornament collection - American Goldfinch and Red-tailed Hawk.
