Absolutely. It is very frustrating how a minority of assholes have power to ruin it for the rest of us, but they do. But I truly don't think these decisions are happening in order to gatekeep. I am not saying they succeeded! Clearly there are issues. But consistently the debate is overwhelmingly people who want to widen participation and disagree on how to do so. The people who want to gatekeep it are shut down. It's all about "how can we get more people engaged in this?"

So talking to people who were involved, the biggest argument people made for the change made in 2022 (which is the last time it changed, as the attempt to change it this year failed because it was badly done) was that they thought it would widen participation/people feel part of the community.

I've not got involved in the business meeting before, so can't speak to other meetings, but the few who were being dicks because they don't care about widening participation for other proposals got shut down.

I'm not sure who the gatekeepers are that you mean, or if they are reading, but I know as someone who got deep in the business meeting stuff about it this year all the arguments were people disagreeing how to widen participation while still being able to run the con. Because that's the goal.

Past conventions have had "I lip-read, please remove mask to speak to me" badges available, so you still get a lot of masking but don't exclude such people from all conversation.

I'm seeing a lot of different responses to the report from all sides. Do you have a source for the team being known to favour non-affirming therapy? (Not saying they do or don't, just trying to get more context.)
