Does anyone know anything about the DEVO doc that Netflix was (as of a month ago) supposed to release on 8/19? It's dropped from their promoted schedule, and all PR folks will share is that it’s not out this month. What gives?

Good thread! Critics at the Times *right now* do this. Almost any critic currently working will tell you that providing context is the reason we do this work, not giving quality grades. If we wanted that, we'd work at Consumer Reports.

A day late, but happy 24th anniversary of the weekend I saw this twice in theaters and used time #2 to con my parents into letting me stay over at my best friend Caroline's house (we are still pals, we got drinks last Thursday).

The people who work in international education are some of the smartest, kindest, most caring people I've ever met. It makes me sadder than I can tell you to know so many people are losing not just jobs but *vocations* over this.

This is the industry my parents spent their careers in. I can tell you dozens of stories of international students who found second families, careers, and spouses because of their time at American universities. In addition to the job loss, we're gonna be poorer communally and culturally for this.

Honestly, this is brought to you in part by my realization 1.5 years ago that my decades-old used DVD copy of 28 Days Later was, at that point, the only way to watch that movie.

A friend of a friend recently sent me some fancy Talking Heads box CD sets that I was kind of whatever about initially, but dammit, I am glad I have them.

It's fun how my physical media ownership strategy has moved from "What stuff do I like?" to "What stuff do I need to make sure I have in a readily available format no matter what," like I'm stockpiling for the apocalypse.

Legend of Hell House is GOOD. It's so cool to see how that movie clearly, quietly influenced so much stuff after.

Kitty Green's The Royal Hotel is essentially a feminist remake of Wake In Fright, though it's also still set in the outback.

She really made me feel like I've been doing adulthood all wrong. Like, aesthetically.
