in 2025, our office hosted more than 8 public safety-focused events. 2026 is our third consecutive year hosting community meetings with our police officers and public safety agencies.

Strong public safety outcomes require transparency, collaboration, and consistent dialogue.

It also expands sidewalk space along Clark and adds a community-benefit loading zone on Wrightwood to improve traffic flow and reduce double parking.

This project represents thoughtful, transit-oriented growth and a major step forward for the Clark Street corridor.

Demolition is underway at 2600 N. Clark St. at Wrightwood — the long-vacant former Dunlay’s/Affordable Portables site.

This five-story mixed-use project will deliver 48 new homes, including 10 affordable ARO units, plus ground-floor retail.

The appointment of Antonio King as Chicago’s first permanent LGBTQ+ Director is historic and timely. As LGBTQ+ rights face renewed attacks, this role ensures leadership at the highest level. Proud to have advocated for it and excited to partner with Director King.

The 43rd Ward Office is proud to share that several 43rd Ward–based cultural institutions have been awarded $10K each through the City’s DCASE Arts Relief Fund. This program provides critical relief to arts and culture organizations impacted by recent federal funding cuts. Congratulations!

Chicago needs a budget that supports public safety, strengthens our economy, and keeps our finances on track. I’ll keep pushing for a balanced budget that prioritizes safety, smart investments, and essential services.

These past few weeks I have been digging into the latest budget proposals from the Mayor’s office. While I see areas of promise, I can’t support a $21-per-employee head tax that would hurt job growth and investment in our city.

The ongoing River bridge closures—especially Cortland—have caused major traffic strain. I joined colleagues in urging the City to act fast and find creative solutions. My office will keep pushing for better communication and the quickest safe reopening.

Alderperson Knudsen launched an ICE response toolkit, a living document that will continue to update based on what is happening on the ground.

This toolkit aims to be a resource guide for people who are concerned about ICE’s abuses of power, and want to turn their frustration and anger into action.

8/ I’m proud to have led the attached letter—joined by more than 18 of my colleagues—urging Mayor Johnson to continue and expand this critical program.

You can read the full letter at the link in our bio.

7/ CARE strengthens public safety by addressing crises with compassion, dignity, and effective care creating safer neighborhoods for all, and by building trust between city services and the communities they serve.

6/ The continued and expanded funding for CARE will do this while also supporting our police officers by cutting response costs, overtime hours, and freeing up police to address and solve violent crime.

5/ Public safety does not and should not solely focus on reactive responses. On the contrary, Chicago deserves a system that simultaneously invests in excellence of policing, as well as root-cause intervention. It cannot be one or the other.

4/ Our police officers whose skills and training are best utilized addressing violence and serious crimes, should have a professionally trained support team available to address mental and behavioral health, and social needs crises.

3/ While it is no question that with federal cuts to various channels of funding and our city’s already existing budget deficit, we must strategically and efficiently direct our finite resources; including, how and when our Chicago police officers respond to emergencies.

2/ The CARE Program deploys behavioral health professionals to respond to residents in mental health crises. CARE is a smart, compassionate approach that improves public safety, supports our officers by easing their workload, & rebuilds trust between residents and city services.

While I’ve raised concerns about parts of the budget that don’t align with our city’s long-term goals, I’m equally committed to advancing programs that deliver real, measurable benefits. One such initiative is the Crisis Assistance Response & Engagement (CARE) Program.

2501 N Clark is approved! This site will have 20 new mixed-income units and ground-floor retail.

Demand for housing, especially affordable housing, is rising. That’s why I'm pushing for responsible growth that delivers more housing, and revitalizes the Clark Street corridor.
