Seems pretty watered down..

Yes! Glad to see this. It’s an important bill and will finally allow adopted folks to access their original birth certificate at the same price as everyone else and without the need for legal help. Progress!

This is spot on in regards to Delegate Williams..

He was wild today on the floor. I’m sure he will take his floor speech, add captions and post it all over social media. I swear him and Garett see themselves as content creators first, legislator second..

I really wonder if he is paid lobbyist. I can’t really tell. He lives in Dinwiddie so he’s not too far from Richmond which explains to me why he is there 5 days a week testifying on everything. He gets really worked up and has anger management issues. Some day he will get banned, fingers crossed..

It’s one of the best days in the General Assembly!

There were sooo many speeches! The difference I see between the Senate and the House is, in the Senate Surrovell, McPike , Roem will give speeches back in response. You don’t see that in the House this year. Speaker Scott is very strict on keeping the docket moving so the R speeches linger ..

Walker is endearing to me in his own unique way. I feel like he really is an institutionalist. He really likes legislating. So many of the new R’s are there so they can make video clips and grift for trips and extra money.

I watched that committee hearing. It was tricky for the Delegates with the testimony of fire chiefs but they handled it well. It was too broad in scope.

It was Delegate Hamilton who made a speech today on the floor against these bills. I double checked, the counties she represents do not have 287g agreements so she did it for publicity not the interests of the police dept in her area.

I’m in awe how you get all these spontaneous moments with legislators! I’m impressed with your moxy and video skills.

One big difference this year between the House and the Senate is Surovell answers back to attacks immediately. The House isn’t operating that way this year. CIA Price and others have the verbal smarts to punch back but are not allowed to now. Speaker Scott is too focused on clearing the docket.

Very true! Delegate Wren Williams has been doing this a lot this year too. I don’t remember him being like this last year but perhaps with some of the Republican losses he sees an opening. He is also making lots of social media posts and picking fights on social media with other Democrats.

Today was wild on the floor! Delegate Griffin from Lynchburg was something else. I was surprised there weren’t more clapbacks from the Democrats but I think leadership let it be known pre-session that it was important to get through the docket. Speaker Scott takes the calendar pretty serious.

He was itching for a fight today Delegate Griffin, he is one of the more extreme ideologues there

I know this was a hard committee session for Chair Hope due to the packed docket and some of the more controversial bills up clogging up the room but I am glad that those public comments occurred. Very powerful testimonies were given for Cohen’s bill.

Oh I know and it was directly after Delegate Cohen’s beautiful tribute to Rabbi Herschel /Black history month. His speech was over the top. Him and Delegate Wren Williams are over the top these days. I need to check and see if they have posted clips of their floor speech.

That was a very powerful part of the committee hearing. I think one person mentioned driving 9 hours plus to make a visit and then being denied entry based on clothing. So heartless. The heartbreak families go through.

Senator Surovell did help with the technical parts of the bill. It did really seem like he wanted it to pass strongly.

He testified a lot yesterday! I wonder if he will use this as a fundraising tool for his organization.

Does this affect the Virginia Beach charter passage or is is just Fairfax city that went bye for the day?

30.01.2026 01:47 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

There was very powerful testimony in committee for this bill. I think it passed unanimously..

29.01.2026 22:47 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Agreed! I watched the house’s safety subcommittee chaired by Delegate Rasoul today. Delegate Seibold’s bill, Delegate Glass and Delegate Anthony’s visitation bills were all on the docket. Such powerful testimony!

Glad you are there! I’m watching online and this Senate hearing is sooo long. I hope some of these Senators have security, lots of gun nuts in that room.

The debate on this bill went on forever! And Obenshain was sneaky, bringing in the Dept of commerce and trying to get him to say that the bill will kill business in Virginia. Carroll Foy did a great speech at the end. Surovell and Boysko were good on the assist for this bill too.

Also: I don’t think I’ve ever started session 11-0 for my first 11 bills in committee.

My first year in the House of Delegates (2018), in a 51-49 minority, they crushed *all* my bills: no amendments, no nothing.

Now in the Senate, in my ninth General Assembly session, it’s a hell of a turnaround.

Excellent news! Your knowledge and tenacity as a legislator inspires me. Keep up the good work Senator.

Oh my! Surovell did a good job keeping things moving but still, I reached my limit at 3.. I need to watch some of the house court ones to see how they compare.
