Credit to Smith for the “even if they did…” (present evidence of drug trafficking). I get annoyed when the criticism is “what if they’re not actually drug traffickers?!”, because it frames the morality (and lawfulness) as a point of uncertainty. It doesn’t matter.

I once saw a guy dump an unbroken pizza box straight into the recycling bin, with loose crusts still rattling around inside. A grown man, old enough to be balding.

My previous most hated was the Jets all-black + dark green. But these urine-stained-mattress uniforms on the Chargers look worse than I could have imagined was possible.

They kinda have. There's like three dozen people watching cable news at any given time. Newspapers are almost totally wiped out apart from WaPo and NYT, and WaPo is now swirling the toilet, too.

"deep fakes" in the same breath as "AI porn", this creep is definitely making nonconsensual porn of his classmates/coworkers. What an awful time to be alive.

You remember Keion's first snaps in week 1 vs. Cinci last year, he seemed like such an athletic beast. Now he's getting stoned by a pass-catching tight end. In competition with Polk for his death-spiral career trajectory.

Haven't heard any behind the scenes on this, but my theory is they wanted something for away missions that they could dirty up, without wasting an expensive uniform. The action jacket debuts in Darmok, and the basic grey long sleeve under the action jacket gets slashed and bloodied.

I think one of the saddest things about being a millennial is remembering a time when technology was advancing in a way that made life better and easier and more exciting instead of actively, intentionally worse

We shall see. Optimism has a very short shelf-life in the NFL. Optimism about Joe Flacco as your QB has an *especially* short shelf-life.

I don't think there's a trigger that OpenAI is threatening to pull, this is more like death through inaction (inability to raise enough money). So the metaphor would be OpenAI has cancer, and is asking for Microsoft's permission to start chemotherapy.

I imagine Microsoft is calculating the contagion if they let OpenAI collapse. They could subsume all its people and contracts, and already own its IP, so they could sell it as, “we have 100% now”. But it will involve a huge write-down on their books and those of other investors, and optics are bad.

It enables OpenAI to IPO, which would mean sharing the incredible burden of financing OpenAI with public markets. Microsoft’s equity will be diluted (downside), but if the alternative is that OpenAI goes bankrupt while starved for cash, the equity would end up worthless, anyways.

So incredibly, as much as I've been impressed by Linux and enjoyed learning it, I've also gained greater appreciation of Windows. It's biggest problem is the bloat, but (a) most of it can be manually disabled, and (b) you won't feel the performance cost if you have high-end hardware.

I've discovered new apps and workflows while experimenting with Linux, but here was another surprise: Windows also quietly supports all the same stuff, often with more polish. Hyprland made me appreciate this. It's a keyboard-based "tiling" UI, which seems novel until you realize W11 does all of it.

Back to something I didn't really understand going in -- what differentiates the distros. There are many dimensions of variability (the app repository, the desktop environment, the app pre-installs, Wayland vs. X11, etc.), but they aren't cemented to the OS, it's all just packages and dependencies.

Another plus: the user interfaces of the popular distros (I've used Mint and KDE Plasma) are great. Highly customizable in every way I want them to be, but mostly It Just Works, and performance is extremely snappy, even on 10 yr old hardware. Completely intuitive to me, as a Windows veteran.

I'll start with what I consider Linux's biggest plus: precision control over what's installed. Arch is the pinnacle of this. As a base it's little more than the kernel, everything else is a choice. I love it. It's also very educational, in how it forces you to learn what everything does.

From Windows to Linux 🧵 -- going to start a running thread with some of my thoughts and experiences, as a Windows power-user who is experimenting with Linux-based OSs. The pros and cons I've discovered along the way have surprised me.

The circularity has been well covered over the past couple weeks, as these incestuous deals have racked up, the thing nagging at me is the "why", particularly for Nvidia. They are drowning in profit, their chips are backordered. Yet it's subsidizing customers. That doesn't make sense!

The cursing I don't think specifically bothers me, but in context here, it's meant to project a very fashy "no rules tough guy" image, and that bothers me a great deal.

Nvidia has promised some of its GPU customers that it will buy back unused compute, eliminating the risk that there's no demand for the product. This is the craftiest evolution of Enron circular financing, it's like selling taxi cabs and guaranteeing minimum income from fares.
