I read a fic recently where one woman gifts another woman a chess piece as a callback to another (also nonsexual) scene from like 10 chapters prior and there's some coy flirting and eye contact and it was 10000x hotter than the ACTUAL sex scene two different women had a few paragraphs earlier

Does anyone else have the thing where you enjoy consuming smut and sexual content, but the stuff that's very clearly designed to be found 'hot' isn't hot at all? I will latch on to the most random dialogue/interaction and find it incredibly erotic, but shrug at blatant horny flirting
