The world could be such a nice place if we allowed it. It's all so goddamn unnecessary. There's no need for any of it. It's so beautiful here. It should be so cool to be alive

Oh yeah I’m aware. It feels very much like a β€œwe have regime change at home” situation πŸ₯²

Hey America, if you’re doing all this shit for regime change, how about you start with yourself 😊

Game dev has become incredibly hard and risky, as has working in games media. Our medium brings delight to millions but the benefits get funnelled to a few. We need to stick together.

I’ve been working on sth to bring back hope. More news soon. In meantime, follow these folks.

Listen we can HEAR phrases like that and β€œwouldn’t it be cool if…” and we are immediately summoned

What is it like to be a game producer

Close those damn jira tasks! Add a definition of done to help you! If you need to make a new task in the future closing your current task does not prevent you from doing that!

26.02.2026 13:17 β€” πŸ‘ 27    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah! At the very least, we deserve to celebrate and have nice things πŸ₯°

(A quick backstory if you’re not already aware: JC started the hashtag #WhatAGameDevLooksLike after security guards at GDC stopped her from picking up her speaker badge since she visually didn’t fit the profile of a stereotypical GDC speaker.)

24.02.2026 17:59 β€” πŸ‘ 39    πŸ” 11    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I’m so glad to hear it! 😊 It’s one of my favorite parts of GDC week haha

24.02.2026 19:22 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Also I say β€œsocial media” for #WhatAGameDevLooksLike but really it’s here on Bluesky and not Twitter/X because fuck that trash place 🫠

24.02.2026 17:43 β€” πŸ‘ 18    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

So anyway, I hope during GDC week in March you participate in #WhatAGameDevLooksLike! It's been a tough year, and we deserve some joy and a bright spark for our industry. Also, to make it easier, we have a feed on Bluesky! bsky.app/profile/drjc...

24.02.2026 17:18 β€” πŸ‘ 19    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

And YES this applies regardless of your industry role, background, or current employment status. You can do #WhatAGameDevLooksLike if you're a student or a hobbyist. You don't have to be at GDC or employed to participate.

Corporations do not make you a game developer, you do.

24.02.2026 17:18 β€” πŸ‘ 19    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

2026 will be SEVEN(!) years since I started #WhatAGameDevLooksLike. Somehow the industry is worse, and we continue to see open, active hostility to DEI. In this way, #WhatAGameDevLooksLike is a small act of resistance. Fostering community and connection are so critical. You are not alone.

24.02.2026 17:18 β€” πŸ‘ 17    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

#WhatAGameDevLooksLike started as a way to celebrate and amplify the diversity that exists in the games industry and shine a light on those who are often unseen. All you have to do is post a picture of yourself with the tag during GDC week, say a bit about what you do, and then repost other devs!

GDC is coming up, which means it’s almost time for #WhatAGameDevLooksLike! Every year this lights up my socials and it’s such a lovely and celebratory time full of belonging and joy. And every year I keep getting reminded of how much we need it as things in the industry get worse lol

UI isn't a thing here, so you can 1) click only one button or 2) click each button individually πŸ₯΄

If you’re worried about the future of games, remember that your $ holds enormous sway. Support companies who actually care about the art and craft of making games, who put people first and value their employees & audiences. Support indies especially. The future doesn’t belong to greedy corporations

A survey where the question is β€œwhat is your primary job focus?” And the options are software development, art, audio, game design, finance, project management, business development, people management, production, marketing/communications. The text is black on a white background.

Working in indie games is a trip because when I fill out surveys like this, all I can answer is β€œyes”

Survey: tell us how you're using AI
GamesIndustry.biz is running an editorial survey (with no commercial involvement) to find out how the industry is using AI, how you think it should be used, and how it should be presented to players. It's quite short, simple, and anonymous, although there's the option to give your email address if you'd like to talk more. Please note this survey is only for those working in the industry, not the general public.

You can fill out the survey here.

The survey will run until Wednesday 25 February, and we'll be reporting the results as part of a run of coverage on GamesIndustry.biz, in an effort to look past the controversy and judge the impact AI is having on how games are made and marketed.
