Pokemon Recharged Yellow

What if Pokemon Yellow got the same kind of remake that Red/Blue did in FRLG and had oodles of QoL added too? It was another nice romp through Kanto and my default rec for anyone who wants to replay a Kanto game. I really want more Pokemon games to add options like these!

And no worries, Pikmin² is the only Pikmin title I'd have on here. I understand the request is warranted after what less-hinged Pikmin fans have previously conditioned the GVG crew to look out for.

Are we allowed to recommend ROM hacks (such as Pikmin 2 ROM hack remake of Pikmin 1, Pikmin²) or fan-games (such as fan-game remake of Metroid II, AM2R), or is this meant to be official-titles only?

I wasn't around for your Zelda II streams. Were you playing an original version of it or were you trying the fan-recreation "Link is Adventuresome"? Once again would recommend it for smoothing out some of the experience.

Wander Over Yonder

What a wonderful funny series. Absolute hopeful goofball explores the galaxy and turns almost everyone he meets (including the people who want him dead) into a friend. Hater's great, perfect bully and foil to Wander. This show reminds me a LOT about Space Dandy (highest praise).

Shoutouts as well to the game's 2.5D presentation on the Nintendo DS version--not even the HD-2D games give you full 360 degree camera control! My biggest homies during the playthrough were Goodian the Slime Knight, Mason the Golem, Curetis the Cureslime, Ward the Orc King, and my lovely wife, Nera.

Dragon Quest V

Another DQ beat! It wasn't my favorite compared to what I've already played, but I get why people love this game and totally see how it would've been blown minds as a pre-Pokemon RPG with monster-collecting. If nothing else, I really like this game's story compared to the other DQs.

The more important distinction here is just figuring out how to give the VS Puzzle its own label from the rest of the "take your time to ruminate on a solution" games that even the Physics Puzzlers have much more in common.

Could I suggest separating Puzzle into "Non-Physics Puzzler" (i.e. Lemmings, The Witness, Pushmo, Baba is You) and one of "Competitive/VS Puzzle" (i.e. Puyo Puyo, Tetris, Puzzle League, Dr. Mario, Wario's Woods)? Both ask you to use your brain, but I think they're entirely different demographics.

Escape From Ever After
Worthwhile Paper Mario indie successor! While it's smaller scope than its contemporaries, the writing and battle design are some of the strongest I've seen yet with this formula. I want more funny games like this. I'll make sure other TTYD-heads are at least aware of this one.

I'm almost sure this series knows how funny it is. Despite there being no supernatural elements whatsoever, the entire power-system has been scaled solely by the level of "how funny would it be if he could actually do that" divided by "how scary would it be if the other guy could live through it".

An utterly insane series and precisely what people who haven't watched JoJo's think Jojo's is. Every other episode drowns testosterone poisoning and historical trivia on why the nonsense happening on screen actually has any basis to believe is humanly possible. I can't wait to watch the sequel.

Mod support is seriously a game-changer and what makes MM Recomp so good. You've never truly had a cozier time through Majora's Mask until you've played the game 60FPS with an HD texture pack, seamless gyro-control aiming and every bit of QoL you can imagine Majora's Mask could ever want. Easy GOAT.

I did a randomizer of Majora's Mask by trying it out in the recomp, both being my first time. Gotta say, I'm choosing Recomp for all my future playthroughs because Recomp rocks. The rando was fun too, though I ended up having to nearly 100% the game in my run...

Brawl in the Family
I got the physical collection of this web-comic, and it was great re-reading through it. So much of the comic has aged flawlessly with tons of chuckles for anyone who loves Nintendo and Smash-adjacent IPs. This series meant a lot to my late childhood, so I'm happy I revisited it!

Pokemon Lazarus
One of the most acclaimed ROM hacks of the year. Despite being Emerald, it looks like Gen 2's artstyle being pushed to its absolute limit, and the Greek-inspired region feels rich and lived in. Great dex of mons, too. If you want another traditional Pokemon experience, this is great.

Klaus
First time I've seen this movie and easily one of my favorite Holiday films now. Pretty and witty--if it didn't have a weird moment pointing out that Christmas is somehow already a thing in what's supposedly a Santa origin story, I almost think I would call it the perfect Christmas movie!

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Pretty good! I did come out of it a little disappointed by the narrative, but as a Metroidvania experience, Prime 4 still delivered on what I love the sub-series for, especially by the second and third areas. Sylux remains an absolute clown to me and you can't change my mind.

BoJack Horseman
The same part of me that loves Venture Bros. loves this show's messages on growth and generational trauma. Its absolute commitment to bits, both funny or dramatic, mean that it hardly ever felt like a waste to invest in a side-plot. Judah is far funnier than he has any right to be.

Kirby Air Riders
Everything I could ever ask for out of an Air Ride sequel. The replayability of City Trial is more phenomenal than ever and the game as a whole has been an absolute blast. Give me a second City Trial map and Adeleine as another character and it'll be unquestionably GOTY for me.

The Summer Hikaru Died
A *good* horror anime? Not generally in the radar of BL stories, but Boys' Lovecraft in Boonies is too smart to write off. Solid mystery context backed by its layered-double entendres of "What are you?" "Good question, what AM I to you?" subtext make for great thriller-horror.

Pokemon Odyssey
I've never played Etrian Odyssey, but even I can tell how much love for that series went into this. Possibly the best route-design of any Pokemon thing I've played, and having nothing but double-battles throughout brought me back to Colosseum/XD joy. Excited for the upcoming sequel!

Steins;Gate
Few shows fully assault the senses of its 00's vibes than this one does. Everyone is their own flavor of chronically online, tons of geniuses who are idiots and fools who are wise--I love the cast a ton. A great re-watch and a classic time-travel story for good reason. El. Psy. Congroo.
