fat, queer thirty-something finally takes on the world after a decade of low income, low expectations, & low porosity hair. it's the feel-good story of the summer. | she/her

writers and editors at the times have figured out you can print any lie you want to in the newspaper if you insert the "without evidence" clause somewhere, as if the lack of evidence of the slander somehow makes it newsworthy instead of the opposite

Rand Paul, hemp's strongest soldier in the Senate, told Politico last night that he still plans to try to drag out the shutdown for as long as possible over its de facto ban of THC (which he first signaled he'd do early last week in a convo with hemp trade groups.)

This motherfucker voted to keep Trump’s government funded every single time. He never tried to stand up, even once. Useless mustache.

On the same day as his ‘fat jab’ launch, Trump issued new reason to deny visas to foreigners: obesity The guidance describes obese foreigners as a ‘public charge’ and orders visa officers to guess how much they would claim in benefits

Cool cool, glad to know we're following in the footsteps of NZ's bizarrely terrible fat people immigration policies

Yesterday we had a meeting on the block. We had to. The state of the government and its affect on the community was the topic. We discussed the best way to proceed in all of the uncertainty.
The other day there was no SNAP in November. Then it was half. Then it was none again. Then it was half again. Then 65%. Then 35% in the exact same day.
So you can see what I mean when I say, uncertainty.
The hokey pokey of this administration had us wondering should we keep doing dinner everyday and lean in, or stop because people are getting a percentage (I think? ) of their SNAP benefits?
Now, preparing meals outside on a street corner in the summer is hard. But, outdoors in a Chicago fall/ winter is brutal. We've done pop ups before in the winter but never everyday...
BUT, knowing how difficult it could be and will be, every single volunteer who cooks and shows up to serve everyday STILL voted that we can't stop. The kids need us. Even with a fraction of the benefits. Even with the indecisiveness of the government. Even in the cold, wet, ick, that is sure to come. Even without funding. They all voted to still show up. And then people in the neighborhood started dropping whatever they had in their pockets on the table.
Because we're all in this together.

We’re getting multiple reports that independents in Chester County, Pennsylvania (a Democratic-leaning area) have been left off the voter rolls. They’re being told to fill out provisional ballots, the same ones MAGA often tries to claim shouldn’t be counted.

The Nonprofit Feeding the Entire Internet to AI Companies Common Crawl claims to provide a public benefit, but it lies to publishers about its activities.

NEW: Common Crawl, the massive archiver of the web, has gotten cozy with AI companies and is providing paywalled articles for training data. They’re also lying to publishers who have asked for material to be removed. “The robots are people too,” CC’s exec director told us when we asked about this.

at the very least, it's unhinged to me that the entire thing kicked off with a judge being like "well i don't trust this woman" and ordering investigations based on nothing but his own opinions?

This is one way incepted bullshit about trans equality is invoked rather than anything real: students can absolutely tell you what a pronoun is, both in grammatical and social usage. It’s out of touch bigots like Emmanuel who either can’t or pretend they can’t to pander to other old bigots.

“You can’t reform a carton of sour milk,” Fetterman told Ben-Ami, according to notes from the meeting, referring to the Palestinians. Fetterman said he did not believe in a two-state solution and claimed he had never met an Arab person who would condemn Hamas. “Correction,” the notes from the meeting stated. “Only a single Arab he has met with that staff was present for wouldn’t outright condemn Hamas.”

Fetterman went on to make statements that shocked people. In opposing a cease-fire, he said, “Let’s get back to killing.” A person who heard the conversation told me, “He said, ‘Kill them all.’” In a statement, Fetterman denied the account, adding, “Any reference to killing was solely about Hamas, and I do support the destruction of that organization, down to its last member.”

A reminder that according to Fetterman's own former staffers, Fetterman had a meeting with J-Street president Jeremy Ben Ami in which he told Ben Ami that he believes Arabs are like a "carton of sour milk" and that we should get back to killing.

"Kill them all" Fetterman is reported as having said.

This isn’t a focus in the Discourse because the loudest voices with the biggest platforms are people who have never worried about their next meal. I’ve needed SNAP; I’ve used SNAP; I’ve lost it when it mattered. This is going to be a wave of mass starvation beyond living memory in this country.
