Book 28 was Hamlet by William Shakespeare. This was (maybe obviously) a reread, first time since high school. I did it wrong, dont read Shakespeare, see experts perform Shakespeare. Also read everything with a Southern accent. That is all.

Book 27 was Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab. This wasn't what I expected! It was a lot!

Book 26 was The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer. It had the same charm of her other book, but also Willy Wonka of books vibes that I adore. I think I'm hooked

Book 25 was Alchemy of Secrets by Stephanie Garber. Fun magical LA was enjoyable. Some elements of the writing weren't great, but the sprayed edges were pretty!

Book 24 was The Summer We Ran by Audrey Ingram. Cute, sad, emotional ride. It's hard to square away with the current climate, because theres some deal breakers that weren't treated as such

Book 23 was Say The Quiet Part Out Loud: A Book on 2000s Emo by William Ramsey. Interesting concept undone by a desperate need for a quality editor and proofreaders.

Book 22 was A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab. I love this woman's world. Take me back to Arnes!!

Book 21 was Mossflower by Brian Jacques. Not as good as I remembered! Likely because I'm about 25 years older than the target demo

Book 20 as A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab. I remember it being my favorite, and it lived up to that. Oh how i wish I could make the Essen Tasch happen in a ttrpg...

Book 19 was A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab. Another reread, and not as good as I remember but I still love the world/concept!

Book 18 was The Russian Five by Keith Gave. Learned a lot about that era of hockey and Detroit's role in the explosion of European players. It's very unflattering in the way they discuss *my* team, but I don't expect much from a 15+ year Red Wings beat writer

Book #17 was Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson. I finished the reread! It was sooo much but glad to be on the other side. Liked it better this time around for [spoilers] reasons.

Book #16 is The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. It was a quick one, comparatively, and I flew through the last 200 or so pages. Tense read, satisfying ending

I can't count. that was book 14.

Book 15 is *actually* The Will of the Many by James Islington. I'm glad I waited because I would have done something bad if I had to wait more than a few months for the next installment

Delayed again! Book #15, finished almost a month ago, was Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson. It remains #2 for me among the Stormlight novels, and has the most gripping Sanderlanche. Argue with yourself

Book 13 was A Prayer for the Crown Shy, also by Becky Chambers. Mossdeep is wonderful in spite of its namesake. I can forgive it

Book 12 was A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers, a delightful warm slice of pie book

Book 11 was Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson. Better than the first time, but still my least favorite SA novel

Book 10 was a reread of This Is How You Lose The Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone. It's as stunning as the first read.

Book 9 was Parable of the Sower by Octavia E Butler. It felt important to read this in 2025. Now I have, and I'm not sure I have the strength to read the sequel

Book 8 was All Boys Aren't Blue by George M Johnson. It's a memoir with an important story of self-acceptance growing up queer and black. People who want it banned are dumb

I am remaining entirely cool and relaxed about the Switch 2 Direct.

There certainly was nothing I would react to strongly.

(cont) This is part memoir, part love story to his city, part musings on basketball as a conduit to greatness. Through it all, Hanif remains a master of the written word. I remain a devoted parishioner at his pulpit, because his sentences never fail to amaze me.

Book 6 was There's Always This Year: On Basketball and Ascension by Hanif Abdurraqib. If you were around for the OG annual read threads, you already know I'll read anything Hanif writes, and encourage others to do the same.

Book 5 was The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. Rereading Stormlight Archive is a goal for the year, and we are off to a good start. I picked up things I didn't catch the first time, which is always fun. Excited to see what else pops up now that I'm more Cosmere aware!

I forgot but we are back!
Book 4 was I Wish I Didn't Have to Sleep by Keith Haring. I read it at the Stanley Museum exhibit before it closed. I almost don't want to count it, but I am.

Please stop using the planet destroying slop machine that is generative AI.

No, it's not okay to use it for leftist or progressive causes. You don't stand with the working class or marginalized people by stealing their art without compensation.
