Could a willing government pass legislation that required water companies to properly invest in infrastructure and waste management under the threat of heavy fines and asset seizure? Such a law would surely rock their share value, allowing the government to renationalise at a reasonable cost.

I had a Reform UK leaflet posted through my door today, and I thought ’waste not, want not’ - so I put it to practical use.

It’s my understanding that by closing the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranians have also restricted oil supplies to India and China, who will naturally turn to Russia to make up any shortfall.

I wholly agree with you about the courage of Iranians confronting oppression. I’d just hesitate to frame any one regime as uniquely brutal, when comparable suffering is unfolding in Gaza, Darfur, Myanmar …and elsewhere - often with far less attention.

Surely they pose a far greater threat to public safety than Shamima Begum.

I couldn’t agree more, there is so much new stuff to listen to. I’m 63 & I actively look out for new music every week & still get a buzz when I discover a good song. I’m just saying if the old stuff is playing anyway and you’re stuck with it, why not remind yourself why you liked in the first place?

Democratically elected governments are obligated to serve the electorate. Yet, despite all of that borrowing, there has been little or no improvement in the quality of life in the UK since 2000. In fact public services have been cut, councils have been squeezed dry, and everything feels broken!

I used to feel the same about Bo Rap and other ‘oldies’ such as Hotel California and Stairway to Heaven which have also been overplayed throughout my life.

My advice - next time it comes on, tune in & really listen to it again, and you might re-appreciate what made it a classic in the first place.

This is what passes for political argument in some circles. This tone has been steadily normalised in Trump-era politics. It’s also telling how often comments are switched off when it gets this ugly.

Trouble is, I suspect that Palantir has been entrusted by the government to play an integral role in UK domestic affairs now that we are no longer protected by EU regulations regarding things such as Free Zones and private data etc.. Labour see our future in greater corporate governance!
