Q for the Comms team: why does this account post in this screenshot-image format, without alt text, rather than writing standard (accessible) posts?

"We're going to hold ourselves accountable as well," Hegseth said in the video. "As a final message to our warriors, the Ivy League faculty lounges may loathe you, the so-called elite of academia may mock your patriotism and disdain your sacrifice, but never forget that we the War Department have your back."

I'd never pretend to be part of "elite academia" but the idea that colleges are hostile to servicemembers is pure culture war fantasy. Our many veterans and future servicemembers (JAG and otherwise) are respected members of our student body and bring valuable insight and experience to their studies.

Right -- my husband is a vet who used the G.I. bill; one of our dear friends is back in school after retiring from the service... these guys are some of the smartest AND most hard-working ppl I know, and I'm pretty sure most other faculty see that, too. H*gseth is an absolute clown.

Congress must return immediately and vote to put an end to this war.

Every Senator should be on the recordβ€”the American people deserve to know which of their leaders supports another potentially bloody and costly war in the Middle East.

No war with Iran.

School admin/teachers who've ignored this company's disdain for people and planet need to explain why they keep doing business w these ghouls.

Not to be a cringe West Wing fan girl or anything (plenty of Sorkin critique from me, don't worry), but when Bartlet said "our job is to raise the common denominator, not appeal to it" we should have paid more attention.

I have said this before, but eliminating programs that teach a lot of students but don’t have many majors is like a restaurant not buying flour in its grocery delivery because people aren’t ordering flour on the menu.

So excited for this Saturday's performance which I believe will be the US premiere of Anna von Schaden's B-flat major piano concerto. Such a fabulous work. The second movement breaks my heart EVERY time!

And what an honor to be joined by the inspiring, amazing, @classicalbeat.bsky.social .

These are β€œlow enrollment” majors but the classes are regularly at capacity. They changed the funding structure a few years ago here, switching the allocation from course enrollments to majors then blamed these departments for a structural, top-down change. This is entirely a political choice.

An official letter from the Kansas Division of Vehicles dated February 23, 2026, with a redacted recipient address. The letter notifies the recipient that due to the enactment of Senate Bill 244, all Kansas driver's licenses and IDs must reflect the holder's sex at birth. It states that the recipient's current credential will become invalid immediately upon the law's publication on February 26, 2026, with no grace period. The recipient is directed to surrender their current ID to receive a new one matching their sex assigned at birth. The document concludes with instructions on how to appeal the notice if received in error, along with contact information for the department.

Kansas is sending letters to trans people telling them that their licenses will be revoked as of tomorrow and that they risk arrest for driving on a suspended license.

This is pure cruelty.

Imagine telling kids: Listen, rich people made this somewhat crappy product they're going to make you use when you end up having to work for them, so we have to teach you how to try to use it and that's a lot of work for both of us because it's pretty crappy.

That's called "AI literacy."

Part of page 90 of the book Blues People. The text says "...in favor of a more formalized, less spontaneous concept of music. The result was a pitiful popular debasement that was the rage of the country for almost twenty years." Below that, someone has handwritten "author hates ragtime."

Last month, University of Wisconsin-Madison Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin approved a proposal to establish a College of Computing and Artificial Intelligence funded by private corporations and philanthropy.
Mnookin said the move was a response to the inevitable creep of artificial intelligence into all disciplines of academia. Rather than reject AI, she envisioned a university that capitalized on this change by making artificial intelligence a "hub" connecting the humanities to computer science.

On the first day of my economics elective this spring, my professor said we would be expected to use NotebookLM to pass his class. He had lengthened the coding assignments so that they would be doable only with the help of AI. The reading assignments were longer, too: ten 40-page papers per week, which he asked us to feed into AI for a summary rather than read ourselves. When it came to lectures, he told us to simply upload the slides to AI and ask it to teach us whatever he failed to explain properly in class.

BLEAK. Bleak. I’d been paying attention to Columbia selling out its governance to the Trump admin, not so much its stance on AI.

i've decided not to listen to the audio of a teacher reporting a kindergartender because frankly I don't want to become the person that that event would turn me into. but one thing I hope we are collectively coming to grips with is what it meant that we have lived among such people this whole time
