When I was young, most parents told their kids music fans were real. You’d see music fans in movies and on TV. As I got older, other kids at school started claiming music fans didn’t exist. So I asked my parents and they admitted it’s just a story people tell kids to add a little magic to childhood.

I like when you read something hyping an artist and it describes them as “much-hyped” because it feels like simply by reading that sentence, you are experiencing a significant part of the music.

I always recommend young musicians choose the crossroads devil. Less environmental impact and a better chance that the music is actually good.

Many children believe that if they make good music, music fans will discover it and give them money for it. Eventually though, they find out that music fans aren’t real and that the money just comes from their parents.

In 2026 it’s going to become fashionable to have 2 or 3 REALLY long eyebrow hairs and I’m going to be feeling pretty smug when that happens.

Any music which starts off isolated and cynical, but then as the piece progresses becomes more open and willing to engage with the possibility of hope or optimism, is a Christmas song, even if Christmas or its typical symbols aren’t mentioned or referenced at all.

A lot of what we think of as “Christmas songs” are just pop songs that mention Christmas. To actually be a Christmas song, the music must undergo a dynamic transformation in the style of Scrooge or George Bailey.

I accidentally smashed a bottle of olive oil last night. Spent over an hour trying to clean up the oil/glass mixture. Had to move the refrigerator. National disaster stuff. But now this morning, despite a few minor cuts, my skin feels about 25 years younger. So I got that going for me.

Sounds like a bad dream but that’s how it was back then. Kids today can’t imagine.

If it’s playing a 150bpm remix of Coldplay’s Clocks that’s since been lost to time, you have arrived in a special place.

Always have a good music listening session BEFORE you go shopping for music. Otherwise, when you’re on Bandcamp or wherever, your ears will be craving music and you’ll end up impulsively buying all kinds of stuff that you don’t actually want or need.
