Passive voice is the thing I notice most in bad journalism. It’s so frustrating.

This is Ada Lovelace, daughter of Lord Byron and considered to be the first person to write a computer programme which was for Babbage's Analytical Machine. She died in 1842
In her honour, today is Ada Lovelace Day and is all about encouraging women and girls in mathematics, science and engineering.

Relevant to Mrs Wyrd's interests, but Mattel are making articulated female rugby player dolls. The one I saw a promo of was based on Ilona Maher, a US player. And dear gods, that is a jacked and ripped Barbie.

All you folks making D&D Barbies should pay attention

Back in August several academics raised concerns that a Deloitte report to government may have been generated using AI. Deloitte denied this and put the citation errors down to poor editing.

Anyway, Deloitte are refunding the government $440,000 for a report that was written using AI.

Just finished Once & Future, by my favourite comics author @kierongillen.bsky.social All I can say is, you magnificent bastard, you did it again. Congrats also to the rest of the team - never forget comics require a group to bring them to life, not just the author. Dan Mora, Tamra Bonvillain.

Sooner or later the synthetics are going to break in a way that requires actual humans to go over there. Or a higher up wants a personal tour. Or marketing wants to get some shots of the actual facility.

the post office is a public service. it doesn’t need to make money. public transit doesn’t need to make money. the library doesn’t need to make money. some things exist for the public good and we desperately need lawmakers to stop thinking about them in terms of capitalism. these are not businesses.

Advocating for human rights, fighting against fascism, curious about the world & open to learning about the people in it, and with a deep respect for equality.

I don’t usually share about my mental health, but in light of some recent White House comments about autism, I feel like this is something personal I'd like to talk about.
In my twenties, I went through addiction and recovery. Since then I’ve spent years trying to understand myself better. I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD and OCD, and after years of therapy, my therapist has told me he has β€œzero doubt” I’m on the spectrum, even though I’ve never gone through the full formal diagnostic process.
Whether or not I’d check every box doesn’t matter to me. What matters is that I relate deeply to much of the autistic experience, and learning about it has helped me find healthier ways to cope and communicate. That said, for many people who do experience enough distress or impairment, having a formal diagnosis can make a huge difference in getting the support and accommodations they need.
I’ve also seen firsthand how autism is overlooked, misunderstood, and stigmatized. Those misunderstandings make life harder than it needs to be. Autism isn’t a flaw to be fixedβ€”it’s a variation, like being left-handed in a right-handed world. The world wasn’t designed with autistic people in mind, but that doesn’t make them brokenβ€”it just means things take some adapting.
That’s why it’s so harmful to see people with serious influence like Trump and RFK Jr. pushing the false claim that Tylenol during pregnancy causes autism. There is no scientific evidence for this. Worse, it unfairly places blame on expectant mothers while ignoring real and complex factors involved, like genetics. All it does is reinforce stigma against autistic people, people who deserve understanding and respect, not fear-mongering.

Something I shared on Facebook, the only place I've personally seen people justifying Trump's and RFK's Tylenol claims, and I felt compelled to say something.

Figured I'd share here as well πŸ’™

Autism is a natural divergence from neurotypicality. It's normal & not the tragedy these clowns are making it out to be.

Transness is a natural divergence from cisnormativity. It's normal & not the tragedy these clowns are making it out to be.

Just deal with people being different than you.

2) TV & film streaming via Kanopy

3) Language learning via Mango
