The bartender, who was just an NPC this time, looked at him inquisitively, but served him a glass of milk anyway.

“I won’t say I’m glad Zooble isn’t bartending, cause they’re good at it, but I’m glad Caine didn’t drag them into this against their will again… So, what’s your backstory, Ramb?”

“Cool. You want anything to drink? I mean, I’m not the person who’s making ‘em, just asking…”

They absentmindedly stirred their cocktail with the straw, chuckling at the colors moving around the glass.

“I’m Batai. Nice to meet you, Rambley”

Even though they don’t like contact with stranger-adjacent people, they put a paw out to shake his hand anyway. It’s only polite, after all.

“I hope I can get to know you more, if you’ll stick around here for a while”

“Thank god… She’s awesome, I really admire her. She stays positive and nice even though she’s been hurt so much… I don’t want her to feel alone, y’know?“

A fond smile lights up their face.

“So, who’s the raccoon that knows Raggy? What’s your name, dude?”

Oh thank god, someone who knows about the others. Batai seemed to be more attentive now.

“Yeah, I know OF Jax, I know F$!& all about him, though… Guy’s shut tighter than a high security prison. I like Ragatha, though. I wish I could tell her she can depend on me, too… Not sure she’d believe me…”

“Hey…”

They took another sip of their drink.

“Didn’t think anyone’d wanna talk to me. Didn’t expect to see another animal here, either. Thought Jax and I were the only ones”

The night was dark, windy, and mildly chilly. The calico was sitting on a bar stool, sipping what looked like a cocktail. It was another adventure where they could just… Chill. No pun intended. They let out a half-hearted chuckle at themselves and the whole ‘trapped in a circus’ situation.

(Idk if you mean physical space or mental space, but what helped me get out of a slump is some advice I got: “Make it exist first, make it pretty later”)
