The Assistant was great, and it was notable for me as the last movie I saw on the big screen before movie theaters shut down due to the pandemic.

I appreciated that they didn't give the Weinstein figure screentime, instead centering the Garner character. And Garner was perfect.

It's a crime that Wood's original Swamp Thing colors (as seen here) have never been available in collections. The earliest trades come closest but are still not accurate (and they drop things, like the caption text seen at the top left of the Swamp Thing page here). Bissette has written about this.

One of those quintessential '70s New Hollywood films. It's good spending a couple hours hanging out with those two great actors playing off each other so well.

The emperor has no clothes, and Trump has surrounded himself with sycophants who avoid telling him the truth if it makes him look or feel bad. In some ways, surrounding himself with yes-men has made him more dangerous, but in some ways, thank God, it's a weakness.

And when Trump was interviewed by Terry Moran, Trump legitimately seemed to think the Photoshopped "MS13" on a photo of Abrego Garcia's knuckles was real... and who in his cabinet would tell him he was wrong?

The court had said 9-0 that it had been illegal for the Trump administration to deport the guy, but Trump's cabinet told him the ruling had been 9-0 in their favor.

I remember seeing two or three members of Trump's cabinet (Miller and Rubio and/or Vance) lie to him on live TV in the oval office about the Supreme Court ruling 9-0 against them on the Kilmar Abrego Garcia situation...

The oath of office is to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Trump took that oath again on his second inauguration day and hours later started attacking the Constitution again, becoming once again a domestic enemy of the Constitution.

The primary duty of the US government is to protect the Constitution, not US citizens. If the two were to be in conflict (protecting citizens vs. protecting the Constitution), the duty is actually to protect the Constitution.

Trump administration announces intention to commit another crime. Trump cultists cheer. Minnesota presumably prepares to sue the criminal Trump administration and will win in court after time and taxpayer money are wasted because of Trump being such a petty, evil criminal.

I was glad this counter-programming happened. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

Reminds me of the year both lead actors in Judas and the Black Messiah were nominated in the supporting category, as if the movie had no lead at all, haha. I assume there's a rule that only one lead can be nominated per movie.

That might still be less bleak than sitting through Trump blathering for hours.

Oh, I did start by mentioning being polite to customer service reps. But it went downhill from there.

Alright! Well, I hopped on Bluesky and made some posts about a sexual predator in comics, the alleged cannibalism in the Epstein files, and the forthcoming death of our wannabe dictator. What a fun, uplifting app! Life is good.

That'd probably be the only thing to make me regret not watching. Seeing that happen live would be amazing...

Ah, yes, Jason Latour is co-creator of Southern Bastards. Why was that series never finished? What was it that caused Image to stop publishing Latour comics the way you stopped publishing Warren Ellis comics? Do you remember? Has something changed in the meantime?

I saw some people thinking that a censored image of a painting or manipulated photo showing a naked man in between two dead chickens was proof that they were eating babies. I think the image even had the artist's name in the corner, and he's apparently known for making weird art.
