When writing this piece, I kept thinking back to this Instagram post I saw from a trans woman the other day. This is what I'm talking about. Watch this:

I would like to do something original with a character like him someday but I also worry a bit that the core sort of thing about Thilan is he's fundamentally so incongruous with the world around him that nobody will be able to really understand him. So that might make it hard for readers.

I don't think I will since it would be an awful lot of work for something fewer people would want to read than a fanfic following MSQ.

Also would have to make up a Haurchefant expy character and that would feel like splitting them up to me.

as an aside it's crossed my mind that I could kind of file the serial numbers off Thilan's WoL storyline and make it an original thing since the adventure part of the story is somewhat fungible so long as it absolutely sucks ass for the protagonist, and in an original work I could make it worse.

He's so friendly/flirty in an attempt to compensate for feeling like people won't find him likable otherwise. But I also think canon supports this.

I guess the way I imagine Artoirel as a guy with severe untreated anxiety but I also imagine him as very good at masking so imho it's perfectly consistent with canon.

Similarly I imagine Haurchefant as significantly less confident than he initially appears in canon.

This is DEFCON 1 priority, y'all. Call your senators, reps, call your friends and tell them to call their senators and reps about this. Call your grandma and tell her to call her senators and reps about this.

I really wish people would stop using slop to just mean 'thing I don't like' or 'stuff that is part of a trend'.

Neither of those are inherently worthy of being called slop. You really gotta earn that title by being low-quality, low effort products of greed and laziness.
