Sandra, an anthro wolf, sits on a bed in the dark wearing a robe. Her face is sad and her cheeks are stained with makeup from her crying. She gazes sadly down at her glowing phone. Text bubbles around her read: “We met at a concert, and I thought he was cute. We flirted, but he was a bit dense. I liked that about him, it made things casual. I wasn’t at the best place in my life when we started getting closer to the timing didn’t seem right. He was a stoner and I was a mess, but we fit together like two puzzle pieces. Seeing his face brought sunshine into my life. Eventually something needed to give.”

She types at her phone, sending a text to someone. “Hey.” In another panel Ben, an anthro maned wolf, feels his phone buzz in his pocket. He picks it up to reveal a text convo between him and Sandra. “Can you come over?” She asks. He texts back and forth with her. “Sure, what’s up?” “I need to talk to you in person”. He looks concerned at the phone. When he looks back up it is implied time has passed. Sometime later he arrives at her apartment and knocks on the door. The apartment looks to be a bit worn down judging by the peeling paint.

Sandra answers the door and Ben begins explaining himself, feeling he took long to get there. “I came as fast as I could. Everything is running late tonight and—“ he stops mid sentence, noticing that Sandra looks disheveled. “Oh…” he goes quiet and she exits her apartment. Without a word she flops her face into his chest, seeking comfort. “Are you ok?” Ben asks. “What happened? Your makeup is running.” From her position buried in his jacket Sandra softly says “stop.” Ben doesn’t seem to hear and continues. “Lets go inside” he lifts her head with his hands in a soft and concerned way. “Stop” she says a little louder thought it is hard to get through Ben’s nervous blubbering. “I’ll get you a towel… just—“ suddenly Sandra grabs his jacket and pulls him in, silencing him with a kiss. “Shut up” (her initial “stops” were an attempt to say “stop talking” and not to stop what he was doing) Ben looks surprised, though pleasantly so with a blush. The two share a kiss.

This page appears to be the next morning. Sandra and Ben lay in bed together, both topless and under the covers. Sandra’s face is still lightly streaked with makeup from the night before. “Thanks” she says with a soft smile. “For what?” “Coming over, you didn’t have to” Ben smiles. “I’ll always make time when you need me” “I know” Sandra sighs. “You’ve said it before.” “And I’ll keep saying it as long as I live.” The camera pans up to the ceiling where a fan sits. Some open piping adorns the walls and a light shines down on both of them. “Can I get you that towel now?” Ben asks. “What?” “For your face…” “oh right” sandra reaches up to her cheek rubbing at the makeup stain on her fur. “Ugh, I’m such a mess, how do you deal with it?” Ben replies without missing a beat “I think you’re beautiful” “yeah?” She looks over at him in almost soft disbelief “definitely” he states confidently. The final panel ends with the two embracing under the covers. Ben’s nose touches the bridge of her muzzle and they both smile happily. “You’re my missing piece.”

A few years ago I made some mini comics exploring character backgrounds for practice. Most of them are not canon at this point, but I still think this one is cute.
