My boss put something into Gemini to find supporting articles for a statement and it made up 2 entire citations using pieces of real citations. But yeah, definitely should lean all in on these things πŸ˜…

I'm so tired of talking about AI but also my entire job hinges on conversations about AI and I'm so demoralized and feel so gaslit and I am just deeply not okay.

I've been teaching at Princeton over the same period and the drop-off in reading stamina has been staggering.

I'm not sure of the cause -- some blame K-12 shifts to "chunk reading" while others pin it on COVID -- but it's undeniable.

Explaining right now to my teenage sons is insane.

Like dude, idk what to tell you. I can’t make egg prices and the other dumb shit make sense for how or why you’re living my 2003 life right now.

16yo got his license today and now my insurance is double what it was yesterday.
I’ll be drinking the rest of the day now and ignoring the fact that in 2 years I have to do this all over again and will have 2 teen boys on my insurance plan. 🍻

God I love Missouri. We vote for progressive things that will actually help so many people and then vote back in the same people who have consistently, sued, blocked, and repealed said progressive things.

Folks, you’re gonna hafta suck it up and vote for someone else if you want shit to stick.

Digging up my grandmas peonies that came from my great grandmothers peonies and moving them to every house I’ve lived in is without a doubt one of the best things I’ve done.
Happy Mother’s Day, folks!

Today I got the joy of watching the first class of students I ever taught graduate as doctors of osteopathic medicine. 7 of them were the first students I ever hired to work in my library. They’re all great, but the first ones are just special.

Needed a bell pepper for red beans and rice and figured why not so I plopped some seeds in a cardboard egg carton and anyway, currently at 5 sprouts from a bell pepper I needed anyway.
Also found a sprouted peanut in a planter so guess I’m growing those too.

Weekly phone call with my R voting father.
Yet again another episode of us agreeing on most things, but me pointing out that I actually voted that way and all these things he’s bitching about are the result of his guy’s EOs.
And then he ends the call.
Rinse and repeat for next week.

It’s not ominous that the US Gov is requesting lists of databases and journals that military medical students have access to, right?
I need a drink now.

I have been hiring students to work in the library for 4 years now. 2-3 per year say they just want some extra money while in med school.
This year, over half gave feeling anxious about money as their reason for applying. Not spending money, they just want to afford food.

My dad just told me β€œWe won’t need doctors in 10 years because of AI”

Meanwhile, I’m drafting a statement to send to my medical students bc they keep using ChatGPT and sending my library staff AI hallucination citations.

Sure dude.

My course got absorbed into a bigger research specific course this year so we kinda had to fit in where we could and that’s how it worked out. Surprising bonus to see mechanics before question helped them but I’ll take it πŸ˜‚
