Good question -- I don't know! The publishers would be the ones to decide whether to implement DRM software or not. Like, Tor tends to offer DRM-free titles, so you should be able to download any of those directly, even from Bookshop. They should really create a special category for that!
02.02.2025 00:40 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
There will be some books available to download now, and I believe the plan is to add Kobo support and/or launch their own e-reader. (I'm voting for the former.) Regardless, it's a big win for small business if even a handful of folks switch from Kindle! ๐ฅณ
01.02.2025 06:22 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0
Amazon's software is proprietary, so you would never be able to read on a Kindle device without the ebook provider contracting with them (ie. OverDrive/Libby). For other e-readers, it will be at the discretion of the publisher, so Bookshop would have no say in it either way.

I really wanted to love it! ๐ญ I have a thing about books with manipulative sibling relationships, lol.
