This is a life and death story for the UK – so why is it being brushed under the carpet? | Aditya Chakrabortty The news that healthy life expectancy is in decline in Britain exposes a serious truth about the state we’re in, says Guardian columnist Aditya Chakrabortty

The consequences of #austerity will continue without a step change and political will - Aditya Chakrabortty’s article highlights a key report that somehow didn’t get the headlines it deserves?? www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I asked AI to name my wife. To the hopelessly incorrect people it cited, my deepest apologies | Martin Rowson Authors, a newsreader, a lawyer and an esteemed colleague: they’re all great – but I’m not married to any of them. Can we really depend on this technology, asks cartoonist and author Martin Rowson

Binge watched Murderbot this weekend. It’s SO good! And an excellent adaption of the novella. Great casting. If you haven’t read the murderbot diaries by @marthawells.com you’ve missed a treat. They are excellent on audiobook too. #sf #fiction #writing #books #whattowatch

Nearly half of UK garden space is paved over, RHS study finds Homeowners urged to use more robust planting and permeable materials to help mitigate flood risk

Our front garden is becoming one of the last in the street - I live in a flood vulnerable city so it’s so frustrating! I think there needs to be council &government messages about this. Permeable materials are not enough we need plants& trees to absorb some water www.theguardian.com/environment/...

UK Government: Keep your promise to protect workers Zero hours contracts, unfair ‘fire and rehire’, waiting months or even years to be able to access benefits – the world of work in our country is weighted against actual workers. It’s billionaire bosse...

A new law could give millions of us better rights at work, but corporate lobbyists & politicians are trying to gut it. Tell the Government: protect workers, not profits!

This is the takeaway I use and this is horrifying. This isn’t somewhere else - this is your backyard and mine! I remember in the 80s a local shop near me suffering this kind of horror. I thought we’d moved on from this in 40 years!

I feel truly heartbroken today. My Chinese takeaway,
which has been serving this community for more than
10 years, was vandalized with hateful graffiti telling us
to "go home."
This is not just paint on the wall - it is blatant
discrimination, and it hurts deeply
The police are already following up on this incident. If
anyone has seen anything or knows who did this,
please contact us
We work hard every day to serve our customers with
love and dedication. I believe our community is
stronger than hate, and 1 hope everyone will stand
together against this kind of behaviour.

This is where the empty headed Flag shagging leads.

Race hate.

Remember: There is nothing natural or inevitable about extreme inequality; it’s the result of an economic system that values wealth and power over human dignity and justice.

It doesn't have to be this way.

Palestine Action protest arrests rise to more than 500 Police say the majority of arrests were for displaying placards in support of the banned group.

Government has got this spectacularly wrong.

If an organisation is breaking the law, prosecute it.

But arresting people for holding up signs is a waste of police time, it's increasing support for the organisation &, above all, it's a flagrant violation of free speech.
