I mean, that makes a bit more sense, but still ... beetroot!

Fat, middle-aged guinea pig servant. UK Further Education data wrangler. Crafter of adorable little costumes for sourdough starters. Mostly here to read rather than post. She/her, plus perhaps a light sprinkling of they/them as an occasional treat.
I mean, that makes a bit more sense, but still ... beetroot!
08.12.2025 13:13 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0WHY is there always a jar of beetroot in a tombola? I *like* beetroot, but not in a would-be-delighted-to-win-some kind of way.

08.12.2025 12:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I was feeling a bit soppy last night so I read YIELD UNDER GREAT PERSUASION by @alexandrarowland.bsky.social again and, yeah, it's still just wonderful. Seriously, friends and neighbours, put this utterly delightful book into your brain.

(I can't show a photo because I'm in somebody else's house, but I'm hugging a big cream and purple cushion just for you.)
I hope things improve. π
Friends and neighbours, who wants a different sort of advent calendar this year? 25 chapters designed to be read one a day. (Or binge them all at once if you want, I'm not your mum.)
Well worth it at full price, but currently only 99p in the UK!

This is horribly reminiscent of the experience of waking up after a busy night of tooth-grinding, so thank* you for that.
*Other verbs are available.
Rolls okay though.
28.11.2025 22:57 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0An awful, fuzzy photo of the same crocheted dice from the previous post, demonstrating that the spots glow in the dark.
But the IMPORTANT thing about it is, the spots glow in the dark.
28.11.2025 22:54 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A photo of a crocheted six-sided dice held in a white woman's hand. It's about four centimetres across, and is made out of orange yarn with pale blue spots made by bloody sewing 21 bloody French bloody sodding knots. (I despise sewing, in case you hadn't guessed.)
It seemed important this evening to take a break from crocheting little vegetables, to knock together a dice instead.
28.11.2025 22:52 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0A photo of a crocheted brussels sprout held in a woman's hand. It's made with a mixture of purple and green yarn, it's four leaves have frilly edges, and it has yellow and black eyes that are staring into your soul (but in a friendly and supportive way, honest).
Please enjoy my newest sprouty child!
28.11.2025 22:48 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Coincidentally, I'm getting on for sixty. Come to *this* town and paint it pink and blue together!
(Other towns and colours are available.)
((But they're probably not as good.))

That. That is a thing of beauty. I applaud your cake wrangler.

20.11.2025 13:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A photo of a suburban English garden on a dull November day. A wet stone patio with odd bits of garden furniture gives way to a green lawn, in which stands a cherry tree with no leaves but branches covered with green lichen. Further away are more trees and bushes, and beyond a wooden fence at the far end of the garden is the neighbours' red brick house. The sky above is a dull grey, and snow is falling and sticking on the ground in a thin but growing layer.
It's giving it a jolly good try!

20.11.2025 08:24 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A photo of a suburban English garden on a sunny November day. A wet stone patio with odd bits of garden furniture gives way to a green lawn, in which stands a cherry tree with no leaves but branches covered with green lichen. Further away are more trees and bushes, including two apple trees with bright ripe fruit weighing down otherwise bare branches. Beyond a wooden fence at the far end of the garden is the neighbours' red brick house. The sky above is a rich blue with grey and white clouds in the distance, carrying away the last of this morning's snow, none of which can be seen now.
Yep, that snow was fake news.

The opening sequence of the (original) Clangers and my favourite film A Matter of Life and Death, are eerily, delightfully similar.
