Minho wakes up in the dark, their heart pounding in their chest, sweat coating their body, sticking their dress to their skin in a way that makes them want to scream. But he can't scream—if he screams she'll hear him. He can't move, his body frozen as he lays there. She's there…in the dark. Foreign shapes loom out there in the sea of inky blackness, dangerous icebergs warping, shaking as his eyes attempt to adjust. Minho swallows heavily, their breath coming out in shallow pants through their open mouth. His tongue is sandpaper and his skin crawls with microscopic creatures, feasting on his fear,on the feeling—the knowledge—of being watched. They lay there, on a worn couch that sags beneath their weight, shivering in the sweltering unknown. When had it gotten so dark? Where is he? In their terror and panic, they can't remember how they got wherever here is. All he knows is…she is there. "Minji," he calls, voice barely a whisper.

As if that was all she had been waiting for, a shape forms above him on the low ceiling. Hands claw into drywall, dropping dust onto his face, which sticks to the sweat dripping from his hairline. Minho's breath picks up as her hair falls, cascading like a black curtain shielding her from him. That is…until her face twists down to peer at him, a horrific smile on her face. "No," they whimper. "You're dead. You've been dead for years. You're not real." Minji's smile stretches wider, gruesome. "Minho," she whispers, giggling softly. "You left me there… If I am dead, it is your fault." "No," Minho sobs quietly, "no, I tried." "Failed," she whispers gleefully. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I–" "Failed," screeches, crashing down on top of him, her hands around his throat. "You did this! Your fault." Black spots bubble across his vision as he gasps for air, unable to move, frozen, as her hands wrap painfully around his shoulders, shaking him.
