It was NBC. The rightwing, pro-empire framing of 3 different segments was just ghastly.
But it does help highlight how folks reach such different conclusions based on their sources
Incredibly well-written and spot on, as always. Your charity is second to none.

For your amusement:
A friend from way back in high school found this magazine clipping. The city used to have a magazine for teens with its annual "forty under forty" style of list.
I was in it as "Ken: the Activist."
I might still have that tie, and like many ska kids loved a fedora
This will not happen unless the mayor directs CPD to arrest ICE in violation. At this point, he will discover why it is a problem that the CPD does not answer to the mayor. If only some well-organized movement in 2020 had pointed this out.

The contract to run the 2,560-bed California City Immigration Processing Center through Aug 2027 will make CoreCivic $130 million
"It will also allow CoreCivic to fill the detention facility to its full capacity"
Liberals and Democrats will call for "funding local police" as a way to solve the problem of DHS/ ICE and no one will think about the fact that this is how we got here.

05.10.2025 21:33 — 👍 17 🔁 3 💬 1 📌 0So much of Scripture is Jesus asking, "How are you going to be MORE loving? Will you let cultural norms be barriers to the work of God in the world? Or will you prioritize God's justice?"
Less important, but Jesus regularly demonstrates his frustration with gotcha questions or quips.
The regime's desire for authoritarianism is bottomless, but their capacity is not. Not even close.
They rely on bluster and memes to make up the difference. The threat is real, but less powerful than they say.
Freedom-loving Americans outnumber them by a lot. Communities can resist. Like this one:
The checkups never find anything. Very frustratingly, I did a 24 hour EEG a few years back. Two hours after they removed the equipment, I had one 😂

"this is a nation of Constitutional law, not martial law. Defendants have made a range of arguments that, if
accepted, risk blurring the line between civil and military federal power—to the detriment of this
nation."
Text mounted a marble wall, under the heading "Youth," unpunctuated, in grand inscription style: "I want to see you game boys I want to see you brave and manly And I also want to see you gentle and tender Be practical as well as generous In your ideals keep your eyes on the stars and keep your feet on the ground Courage hard work self mastery and intelligent effort are all essential to a successful life Character in the long run is the decisive factor in the life of an individual and of nations alike Theodore Roosevelt"
The entrance hall of the Natural History Museum in NYC features excerpts from Theodore Roosevelt's speeches and writing, and I think everyone who talks about traditional American masculinity should have to read this. (My sons, for their part, mostly thought it was funny that it says "game boys.")

I was exhausted this evening after a really full couple of weeks, especially getting an article done. And I should have gone to bed early.
But I stayed up and sanded this cherry slab that will be a coffee table.
Sprayed it with water to pop the grain overnight, final sand and finish tomorrow!
You heard it here first, folks: don't start thinking.

We explain the likelihood of new maps, probable targeted districts, and any obstacles to passage.
I was blessed to participate in this archeological dig alongside several descendants of the families my Jesuit forebears had enslaved.
The paper that Dr. Masur and her team published with their findings, methods, and ethics is well worth a read!

Whenever I see somebody respond "Nobody cares!" to a post they don't agree with or don't want to see, I assume they're actually saying, "I don't want to care and your caring about this makes me uncomfortable so I'm making a blanket claim to make my uncaring seem more natural."
