Agreed. I suspect it's anomie coming in: they have the money and entitlement to do anything they want, and to get away with it, and they get to a point of having done everything else... And in combination with antisocial personalities, the next step is paying to kill people.

The media bans on kids here? On one hand, maybe not so bad.

On another: seriously, guys? We used to fake IDs, sneak into R rated movies and get up to all kinds of mischief.

On another hand? Seeing the way grown men carry on online towards women makes me think the kids aren't the problem.

Same deal in Melbourne... for both. I don't really care about getting the autism dx because I would rather have that extra time and money I would have used on a dx, but the ADHD one would mean legally accessible medication and being able to ask for distraction free workspace.

Also back in the day, the researchers were only really interested in middleclass white boys. Ditto for ADHD. The research informed diagnosis and recognition and so many others fell through the cracks and just had to figure out how to survive.

The idea of putting myself through uni again to emerge staring at HR job ads and applying to be a corporate attack dog is abysmally depressing.

Exactly. A lot of us aren't "touchy feely". Sometimes our nurturing is via logic and problem solving rather than hugs and soothing words. Those "cold" mothers being on the spectrum themselves suggests... genetics.

Yep. I went to the autism parent groups. Heard some pretty fucked up things from parents who thought I was more like them than our kids.

My suspicion is that this stems from the dark ages when genetics weren't a consideration and instead signs of autism showed up in toddlers around the time they were vaccinated. They used to blame "unaffectionate mothers" for causing autism, too. (I always wondered if those mothers were autistic too)

A lot of autistic people get very into science, obsessing over an obscure area of research, and solving problems though.

It is more likely that autism causes vaccines. 🙂

One thing that's been heavily proven to me is Bluesky is not all politics. The music, record, cd, movie, books, horror and lots more scenes are heavily alive and well here with almost zero negativity. Better engagement here than Facebook has been in years.
