I am loving it being 90s season for the Ice Dance soundtracks at the olympics. Can't really get better than a Backstreet Boys medley. #Olympics2026

Opportunities to transform nature don’t get much bigger than this!

We have the opportunity to conserve 340 acres (138 hectares) of biodiverse countryside surrounding the Cerne Abbas Giant, Dorset.

Today we've rung all of the bells in Wandsworth to celebrate being London Borough of Culture this year. Lots of first quarter peals, pub pints and general merriment. This includes a grab at the "interesting" bells at Holy Trinity Wandsworth - sorry to the neighbours! #bellringing #LBW

London's giant AI artwork to be torn down The bizarre story of why a much-talked-about creation is being torn down. Plus: Docklands Light Railway extension, giant laser stalks the night sky, and more tales of Android phone theft rejection.

It’s the exclusive everyone wanted, the story that will win next year’s Pulitzer…

I can reveal London’s giant AI generated Christmas artwork, the subject of much online mockery, is being torn down - and I honestly *genuinely* think you’ll never guess why. www.londoncentric.media/p/ai-artwork...

Tyranny and anarchy The rule of law is trying to hold the line, say peers

The rule of law must be protected against further erosion, a parliamentary committee warns us today. Failure to do so, says the House of Lords constitution committee, risks the rise of extremist political parties, ultimately creating space for dictatorship.

Rule of law: holding the line between anarchy and tyranny - Committees - UK Parliament The rule of law in the UK is being weakened, and everyone must take steps to protect it against further erosion, says the House of Lords Constitution Committee.

In nine months you could grow a whole human or you could try to work out what the rule of law is.

I haven't even seen it yet! Foolishly booked theatre tickets months and months ago not knowing this TV highlight would happen. When I tell you my scroll reflex is on FIRE today trying to miss spoilers..

Ahh no, I'm sorry to hear that. Do dig around in the Reddit forums, I imagine someone out there has decided some sort of workaround by now given how absurd the whole thing is.

Amazon’s killing a feature that let you download and backup Kindle books It’s bad if you like to keep ebook backup copies.

'fraid so. You can't download the books as a back-up / personal version anymore. If they discontinue a book you lose it (or if they update the text) and you're locked into the universe. Not an issue if you stick with their devices, but it binds you in completely. www.theverge.com/news/612898/...

As partner follows you on BlueSky I should probably concede that he did the legwork in sorting out our kindle library downloads before the deadline, not me...

I was lucky though as I'd downloaded my whole kindle library before it became licenses instead, so could side load that. If you didn't do that and still have a lot of books trapped in kindle the play store ones may be best for you. (Boox was my leading contender)

The ones that run play store would be great but I a) didn't find the price to quality ratio is quite there yet and b) like having everything searchable in one place not between apps.

I've recently switched to a kobo Libra (got the previous generation on eBay because I don't care about colour) following a lot of research and it's great. If you can be bothered to do the legwork they'll price match anyone and it's easy to add other stuff to and link with libby.

Organised crime making millions from illegal waste dumping in UK, says committee Peers say β€˜woeful’ record on prosecutions has led to a β€˜low-risk, high-reward’ criminal culture Organised crime groups in the UK are making millions every year from illegally dumping and burning rubbish, peers have told ministers, after an inquiry found a lack of enforcement made it a β€œlow-risk, high-reward” criminal enterprise. β€œCriminality is endemic in the waste sector,” a Lords committee told the government on Tuesday, after it found at least 38m tonnes of waste was illegally managed every year, β€œleading to serious environmental, economic and social consequences”. I'm very jealous of people who can visualise and discovering it's a thing suddenly made a lot of things make sense. Like why people get mad when a movie does 'look like the book' which I never got. If there was a safe procedure I could do to get a minds eye I would just for reading!

I'm completely aphantastic so it's just... There? If I'm reading slowly then it's like I'm reading out loud in my head but otherwise it's just words. If I try to imagine a character, I can give you a description of a list of words, but largely I get a sort of vibes based feeling in my brain

We did the whole journey from Kirkenes to Bergen and that's very common and surprised us too! They have to chase them off before it leaves. Once a day they have also little automated system that cleans the windows as well, which brought us joy. (it really is slow travel to the extreme...)

We so enjoyed watching all the locals who come down to watch the boat come in with their evening hot chocolate (we concluded we'd do the same) and the views are gorgeous. Have fun and I look forward to following along with your journey!
