According to Jenna Fryer, Zak Brown’s big one off driver was going to be Valentino Rossi.

That would have generated more outside publicity but not sure how well that would have gone.

He was one of the top drivers during the 2010s but last won in 2018 so unless you were an IndyCar fan around that time it’s probably not a big deal.

I should clarify by “excites” I’m more talking about generating excitement outside of IndyCar fans like a Larson or Alonso did.

I don’t think RHR excites anyone like Zak Brown wanted and don’t think he has a realistic shot to win but he was probably the best option for McLaren.

I know he led laps last year on strategy but he wasn’t going to win.

Oh and Conor Daly because the 2nd DRR seat is now available
