These pocket sized performers are only 11-13cm long and weigh about 10 grams. They're accomplished travellers, flying from #Tasmania to the mainland (about 250km!) A massive distance for such a tiny #birb. This photo was taken in the tree adjacent my yard, welcome neighbour! :)

Im moving house tomorrow, will really miss my little feathered friends and worry about Hoppy because it has been a harsh winter so far. Got some boxes of seed that I'll give to neighbours in the hope they might continue to feed them.

This bird is a Sakhalin Leaf Warbler. It sang right in front of me, so I can say that with confidence. But without the song, it’s really hard to tell! 😓 🪶

A white and brown streaked body gives way to a black back and wings. The wings have a cream patch in the center on top with parts of brown next to that. Underneath they are white with black leading edges. Looking like a heron but stockier, smaller and shorter with a more substantial beak, still a stabby job! It feet are yellow and clawed for climbing among the reeds, where they feed, nest and hide. It is flying away from the viewer at a 45 degree angle. Taken amongst hundreds of other awful photos as the bird dashes across the lake at El Hondo, Spain.

It took me 5 weeks to capture any usable image of a Little Bittern. They bolt out the reeds, unannounced and it's pure luck to be looking in the right direction. This is the best I have managed so far and it's terrible!! #birds
