Facts don't matter when they get in the way of someone's 'truth'.

Fair enough that she's resigned due to the position she put herself in.
What would be nice, in situations like this, is if the people replying to that post had familiarised themselves with the facts rather than clickbait headlines. But hey, no one wants facts getting in the way of their 'truth'.

Charlie was obviously helping himself to Jim's jam sarnies, so he put them in his school satchel and kept it on to stop them being someone else's scran.

Reading is for everyone 💓 And indie bookshops and public libraries play an essential role in making sure everyone can see themselves represented in a story!

There’s actually no real reason for anyone to discuss the opinions of Dean Cain. For most of recorded human history we have not done that.

FYI - For those (quite rightly) boycotting Bezos, the deals are also in place on Kobo, a far nicer company run by some very nice Canadians.

Two BBC slogans - "Inform, Educate, Entertain" and "The fight for truth is on"
https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/2024/bbc-news-trust-is-earned

We've spent a couple of days now discussing the "problem" of "small boats", and claims that immigrants are responsible for a disproportionate number of serious crimes. The government has played along with this narrative - it's all a serious problem - and various BBC programmes have quoted figures from Robert Jenrick, which appear to be taken from a Daily Telegraph story, quoting Nigel Farage, who in turn quotes an organisation called the Centre for Migration Control, which appears to be a one man band - the trading name of Athelney Campaigns Ltd, run by one Robert Bates.

I've heard Robert Cuffe of BBC Verify telling us the figures should be treated with caution, but the story doesn't change.

Yesterday, Yougov released figures
https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/52704-is-there-public-support-for-large-scale-removals-of-migrants
which would be no surprise to anyone who's read - or presented - the news over the last few years:

- 45% of Britons would support a halt in immigration and deportation of recent arrivals (that's not quite what the Yougov report says, of course, but it's the kind of headline the papers produce from the figures, and the kind of headline you read out at nine minutes past six)
- 47% of Britons think there are more migrants staying in the UK illegally than legally, when a comparison of those arriving in small boats (the headline number, arriving in an irregular/illegal way but immediately taking on the legal status of asylum seeker) with those arriving with government-issued visas (for work, to join family members, to escape Ukraine, Afghanistan, Hong Kong...) shows the "illegal" number is around 4% of the total

It's not your job to argue for or against immigration or asylum. But you do, calling arrivals over the Channel a "problem" - not because of the exploitation or the deaths; you

BP to review oil and gas projects to boost profits The announcement comes as the UK-based energy giant refocuses its business on fossil fuels.

This would more or less halt the ability of scientists and academics from visiting the US to give talks, attend meetings and workshops, collaborate with peers on research and I think that is the primary point. 🧪

Are small boat migrants really 24 times more likely to go to prison? Spoiler alert: no. But here’s how the media got suckered by bad data and worse assumptions. The Conservatives have claimed migrants from small boats are “24 times more likely to end up in prison”, but this figure is wrong on so many levels! On Thursday, I was sent this headline from the Dail...

Brandolini: “The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it.”. @monkemma.bsky.social expends a lot of energy very effectively...important work!

Two matches to see in quick succession at the ground, lots of on pitch action, family friendly fun, lots of the games on free-to-air and a much needed big injection of cash to the counties. So much to enjoy.
