I mean, a lot of us spent all day at school being told that democracy and respect for human rights, was an essential part of American exceptionalism. Then we went home and our uncle was saying the n-word at the dinner table and none of the other adults said anything.

Gen X too. We were officially taught that democracy was what made us stronger than all those places like Russia, China, Iran. Democracy was why we were going to win. But the joke was easier to spot, I think. You could kinda see the smirks on their faces.

My ADHD is worse than it was when I was younger and I haven’t been able to physically read a whole book in about 15 years. If it wasn’t for audiobooks I’d be unable to consume anything longer than a magazine article.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but listening to an audio book absolutely counts as “reading” a book.

In fact, I’d argue that listening to an author read their own work aloud is an exceptionally magical and even holy experience.

I love it so much. Especially as my eyesight gets worse.

I’m a bit late (40-something years) to this party but just in case you didn’t know: the famous “how many licks does it take? I never made it without biting” ad is twice as long, has extra dialog, and whole extra scenes that you probably never saw on tv. Holy shit. The real thing is 1 whole minute.

If you grew up before DVD boxed sets, you basically never saw the unmodified version of anything. You never saw The Simpsons without the syndication cuts. You never saw the original opening of the Flintstones. You maybe never saw uncut Looney Tunes. This is a pain our children will never know.

Remember when people after 9/11 said it was “the end of irony” and “return of sincerity” and what they meant was a return to early Cold War jingoism, but what they (eventually) got was folk music, tumblr, and the surprising earnestness of 00s-10s hipsterism? Adventure Time was a big part of that.

I mean, the ads are for like, quick books, grocery store deals, sports betting, hair/skin/etc beauty products, prescription drugs… not a toy or sugar cereal ad as far as the eye can see.

If the ads that Hulu/Disney+ chooses to show during a show are at all influenced by who mostly watches it, the modern audience of “Adventure Time” is almost all adult. Kids are completely irrelevant to its demographics.
