Homeowners can reduce their property taxes by appealing to the Board of Review, which makes Board of Review Commissioners important elected officials with the power to ensure a fair and equitable property tax system.

This most prominently impacts low-income homeowners and communities of color, creating barriers to homeownership and the building of intergenerational wealth.

Property taxes are one of Illinois homeowners’ most significant annual costs.

Congratulations to all Illinoisans who will benefit from this much-needed and well-thought-out law.

We particularly want to recognize the work of Joi Imobhio, Impact for Equity's Policy Strategist, whose tireless work on this issue brought about this change to make the state a more equitable place to live.

We are beyond thrilled that @govpritzker.illinois.gov signed the #cleanslateact into law! This Act automates Illinois's record-sealing system process for individuals with certain non-violent convictions following a waiting period.
