It always tickles me when @alieward.bsky.social says something like "enjoy washing dishes or whatever you're doing while listening to @ologies.bsky.social" and I'm doing silly nerd nonsense like measuring mullet bones in a Belgian ichthyoarchaeology lab ๐Ÿ˜…

Fueled by podcasts, this work is ๐ŸŸ

In spite of the Safe Space Policy being clearly stated at the beginning of the meeting, Prof. XXXXX targeted me by name, calling for my resignation from my position as Editor of the society's journal. Furthermore, his misuse of my title, referring to me as "Miss Kamash", felt deliberately demeaning. This intimidating behaviour explicitly contravenes the EAA Safe Space Policy. Although he was muted, for which I was grateful, I experienced a panic attack following his comments and did not feel safe to speak for the remainder of the meeting. This was further compounded by not only Prof. XXXXX being allowed to remain in the online meeting, but also being invited to take the floor again after the break. This gives me strong concerns about the effectiveness of the Safe Space Policy.

On a broader point about the effectiveness of the Safe Space Policy, I also note that members whose position aligned with that of Concerned EAA were repeatedly and persistently accused of anti-Semitism throughout the meeting. This is a serious accusation that should not be levelled without due care and evidentiary support. Its use as a blanket accusation seems to have been designed with the explicit aim of silencing and intimidating members aligned with Concerned EAA, which again contravenes the Safe Space Policy and should have been dealt with more robustly during the meeting.

Following yesterday's EAA Special Meeting, I have submitted a complaint to the EAA Appeal and Anti-Harassment Committee. I post it here, with names redacted, for any members who were not present. Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out with messages of solidarity and support ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’“๐Ÿ™

Duane Kearns Puryear, holding his panel for the AIDS Memorial Quilt. It reads, in block letters: "My name is Duane Kearns Puryear. I was born on December 20, 1964. I was diagnosed with AIDS on September 7, 1987 at 4:45 PM. I was 22 old. Sometimes, it makes me very sad. I made this panel myself. If you are reading it, I am dead..."

There are several great resources to learn about Duane, his advocacy, his family, his panel, and the politics of memory and re-creation, especially this one by The Dallas Way: http://www.thedallasway.org/stories/written/2021/9/19/duane-puryears-and-the-quilt-panel

Im genuinely so befuddled by this; I DON'T LACK IDEAS.
I have so MANY ideas and plans--its time, money, and energy I lack. I don't need genAI to make up stuff for me, my brain does that perfectly well, and I actually love that my brain does that for me.

I've got a stress twitch developing in my left eye and there's a persistent flicker in all of the overhead lighting of the room I'm working from right now. If anyone sees me lying face first on the cobbles in the middle of the Exeter Christmas Market today just leave me, I'm doing fine.

Also, to be clear, when a trans instructor at OU is being punished and targeted for quite fairly grading a terrible essay, itโ€™s bizarre to see academics online debating the rubrics.

Thatโ€™sโ€ฆnot the problem.

every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades

I'm completely incapable of switching off my brain while having fun, so I recorded all the fish species my friend and I saw on our snorkelling trips in the Red Sea.

And we knew this. This wasn't speculation. We studied it, we had the talking points. We trained volunteers to explain this to people. It's not a surprise. Rich people don't flee places with good quality of life when we increase the quality of life. They might try to cheat us, but they don't leave.
