A raven presents itself to you only when it is ready to let you see it. Before that it is in disguise!

Ah ravens, nature's prankster.
I was out for a relaxing walk around a bog one day, when I heard a loud popping, sounding very similar to a rock falling in water in a cave. Went exploring for about an hour until I realised there was a raven in the bushes following me. Once I got it, they flew away.
Life is like a river, there is a flow to it, it happens. Some people behave like rocks in the River, disrupting the current at every possible opportunity, because I firmly believe they think they are the River. No excuse for this, and unfortunately no visible end to the carnage on Irish roads.

02.02.2026 12:03 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This image captures the Aurora Borealis, commonly known as the Northern Lights, as seen from a residential garden. Scientific Origin: The phenomenon is caused by charged particles from the Sun's atmosphere colliding with gas particles in Earth's atmosphere. Vibrant Colors: The specific green and reddish-pink hues shown are determined by the type of gas particles involved in the collision; for example, oxygen at lower altitudes typically produces green light. Geographical Range: While usually associated with high-latitude regions near the Arctic, strong solar activity can push the display further south into areas like the United Kingdom and Ireland. Observation: The display often appears to the naked eye as a mild glow or patches like clouds, but long-exposure photography can reveal more intense colors and textures not always visible to the human eye.
Great excuse to dust off the Canon DSLR tonight. Loved seeing it with the naked eye, but I'm always curious about the big picture.

Somedays are a real struggle, trying to get to grips with what I can/cannot do anymore, my mind races, the fatigue hits.
Then there are these lovely little moments where all that noise in my head quietens down.

Women in children. 🤦♂️ Women in general. I need a real life auto correct.

To be fair, he is fairly on par with the Catholic churches treatment of women throughout history? And it's not like a selective view on the narrative of history isn't beyond both identities?
Whatever people's beliefs/faiths, it's hard to believe how the ideologies can be used to excuse things.
The image shows a view of St. Mary's Abbey in Trim, County Meath, Ireland, as seen across the River Boyne. The abbey was founded in the 12th century by Hugh de Lacy. It is known for its "Yellow Steeple," the tallest surviving part of the abbey ruins, which is visible in the background of the image. The building in the foreground appears to be a private residence or hotel built into or adjacent to the historical ruins. The site is a significant historical landmark in the town of Trim.
If you look very closely you should be able to see the moon. Taken on #NewYearsDay but I only remembered now.

If you stand by and watch a bully beat someone up and do nothing to stop it, then you're on the side of the bully.
It's a long way back up the road of decency for Democrats and Republicans to redeem themselves.
Snap, same name! Except my middle name might be brain exploded a bit, but that part still makes me less annoyed than the state of the behaviour on our roads.

On every New Year's Day my wife and I take a cold plunge. Usually in a lake. Shook it up this year with a visit to The Hot Box Sauna on the River Boyne. This year's dip was accompanied by a school of curious little fish. Mighty.

Grading housework you say? How festive.
A winning phrase is: "no no, it's not that you didn't do a great job, it's just not how I would've done it". Go on, try it.
Depends on the location and congestion on the line. If you're one of a few in your area, it'll be good and steady. If you're one of many, the line will likely run slow at peak times. Having said that, their response to issues is generally good. Best bet would be to check with your neighbours.

Jokes on you, Dermot, I know the whistle blower. But you wouldn't know them, I met them on holiday, and they don't live here.
But really, terrifying that some people think this would be true.

The RSA targeting the low hanging fruit on an entirely different tree. Our society has abandoned so much to the combustion engine.
No amount of high vis will make someone visible to people who aren't looking. 😞
The image is a landscape drawing created using a dry medium, likely charcoal or pencil, depicting a natural scene with hills and branches. The artwork is a monochromatic drawing, using various shades of gray to create depth and atmosphere. The scene captures a view through bare branches in the foreground, looking out over rolling hills or mountains. The artist used shading and blending techniques to suggest a potentially foggy or overcast environment. The style is expressive, with strong contrasts between the dark foreground elements and the lighter background hills.
Really enjoyed that, thanks for the inspiration. Still have lots to learn, but getting there.

Took a serious illness to get me started in art, I don't get out as much anymore, so I like to try put the scenes on paper.
The kind of mist you'd get soaked in. Hope you enjoyed, it's a lovely spot to hike. Great photo, might attempt to draw it if you don't mind!

The mushrooms in the image are likely a species of honey fungus, which belongs to the genus Armillaria. Honey fungus is a parasitic fungus that can attack and kill the roots of many woody plants. The mushrooms, or fruiting bodies, of honey fungus often grow in dense clusters at the base of trees or on stumps. The appearance of the mushrooms can vary, but they are typically honey-colored and may have small scales on their caps. While some species of honey fungus are considered edible when thoroughly cooked, others can cause stomach upset, so it is recommended to not forage for them.
