a major problem with bluesky is that i can offhandedly remark "i hate drawing, its too hard" and then a sweet old lady will gently encourage me and kindly point me to some useful resources to get started drawing and i dont know what to do with myself

It's a nice refresher to see art on my timeline and not just hate, irrelevant posts and bullshit

Facts

One thing I learned through the years of making art: Your piece will never be "finished", there's always something to correct. But when an artwork starts to annoy, frustrate or bores me, then I move on and start a new one. Forcing an end just stops progression.

I showed an artist friend my recent sketches. They were impressed until I mentioned that I used references. Then they were obviously disappointed. What is this mentality of "art is only good when made without references"?

I've been teaching art for years.

What holds you back isn't your inability to learn theory.

It's a lack of:
- Clarity of your goal & WHY you want it
- Belief in yourself
- A simplified roadmap
- More action, less overthinking
- More objective analysis of your mistakes

My goal as an artist personally is not to allow me to follow along on my life like you know me, to make you wish you had the life I had, to influence what you buy, etc

It’s to make art and survive doing that for as long as I can
